Description

Hello ! I'm French and I like Portal 2 and mapping. This is my second Portal 2 real map, done in a week. It is very short and very easy, but I want backfeeds and maybe blindruns please, to improve my mini-map. (Sorry if I have a bad english) Please write comments, thanks ! Enjoy ! UPDATE 04/30/2012, 1.2 : - Door remplaced by a fizzler. (Thanks wildgoosespeeder) - Add trigger to close the exit door UPDATE 04/22/2012, 1.1 : - Delete the lights at the ceiling and add an observation room. - The platform with the cube has been remplaced by a brush. - Sound add at the end. - Lights of the beginning modified. - Text at the beginning.

I'd like to have seen a little more, but can't really complain about 2 mins of free portaling ^^

Yeah I know it's short, I will maybe add new content.
But thank you again, it make me happy to have an opinion on my map.
EDIT : Ho, at the beginning, there was acid, but I deleted, and I forgot to delete the sentence of GLaDOS. :/ Sorry for this..

Nice map. I like the short easy ones. However I have some constructive criticisms for you.

- The lights around the first creates a weird illusion
- You don't need all those lights. Make an observations room as a natural light source instead
- The platform that the cube is dropped on is a bit weird looking
- You could have reused the laser in some way

Thank you ! I'll remplace the lights by an observation room, and improve the firsts lights. And try a thing with the laser. (And maybe add a pneumatic vent with turrets)

But, for the platform with the cube, how I can improve this please ?

Maybe if the laser was used somehow to prop it up? Would need timers and all, but if you make too many changes it might as well be a different map. I like it as is

Try using a smaller platform. If you really need a big platform I suggest replacing it with a simple brush.

The one you're using now is usually used for floors, sealing or walls, not platforms.

But I no add a thing with laser and no pneumatic vent, I tried but it not very good...

Nice short and simple map. It's how I should start mapping. I haven't finished anything because I'm over-reaching and they're too complex and buggy. I'd be happy with this as a starter map. 4/5.

The door that is open by a laser that leads to an Aerial Faith Plate could pose some potential to get a player trapped easily if one were to somehow place both portals next to each other on the ceiling. Might I recommend using a fizzler instead?

I actually went into that room and tried to place both portals there. It isn't possible

At the end I didn't even need to use the angled panel - the faith plate just kicked me out at an angle and I landed on the exit platform. Was that supposed to happen?

I downloaded about an hour ago.

EDIT: Actually, are you making sure your new RAR file has a different filename to the previous version? If you use the same filename it doesn't actually get changed. Happened to me a lot with my first upload....

I had an issue where the game would not load. I placed the file in the maps folder with all the other custom maps, which load fine, but I just get a complaint that the file is invalid. I am on Mac and I unzipped with Stuffit Expander.

] map sp_cube_in_height_1.1
CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: No such map 'maps/sp_cube_in_height_1.bsp'
map load failed: sp_cube_in_height_1 not found or invalid

Hmm, is it that people who download the latest version of the map, you see the changes? (the platform replaced by a brush for exemple)

Yes the update shows, but there is an error when loading the file when you named it with a "." in 1.1. Change the name

  • Raise the sealing in the main room a bit. You hit your head when flinging
  • Set a trigger so that the exit door closes
  • Make the wall over the pressure plate so that you can only place one portal on there
