Description
A map that uses a Paint gun! Based on the created gun by Omnicoder, I modified it a bit to work with my "fizzlers" I've wanted to make maps like tag: the power of paint, but I wasn't really able to do much until I asked omni for his design. It came out very fun and I think it's intersting to merge a paint gun with underground aperture science. Loads of potential, I am planning on expaning on these levels a bit more. Because it acts as an introduction, the levels are quite easy. So just enjoy the ride and the views! ----====IMPORTANT====---- -If you spam "e" (Use button), the gun will fly away. So, try to refrain from doing that. -Do NOT move the mouse in the first few seconds when the map loads! -Move your feet around (Ie, quickly pressing wasd) to update the gun's view/axis. This will force the gun to aim to where you are looking at.

Different, I liked it. Interested to see what else you can do with it.
Haha! Thanks! I already started on the next, although I have some issues which I will figure out eventually.
Also, that is a massive amount of steps!
Hehe, that was fun! After the blindrun everything got painted. Everything!
Don't think I found the ninja solution, but there's a teeny wee shortcut at the end.

I love it. Unfortunaetly, I dont have any more unreleased maps done for the DLC beta. So, its going to be a couple of weeks until my next map. I do have spring break next week, so hopefully I wont spend it too much time hangover'd!
This was tons of fun. Especially loved that last jump. Environment was great - vast, open and erie - got a little spooky down there. Flowed smoothly too - nice change of pace. Thanks for making!

Yes it is. My goal is to reach 1 million but I think it will stop at 999,999. I will know in a couple weeks. I am currently at around 945,000.
Wow. When I first saw this I really didn't see myself enjoying this type of gameplay. The maps proved me wrong. I loved it!
Okay I'm sorry to post again but I'm new here and I'm not used to everything yet. Why does it say "i dont know what brush is but i herd it alot" under my username? Bad grammar FTW!

I think it has to do with how many posts you have on the forums. A brush is the basic tool to make maps.
Thanks for the feedback!
Interesting map, I'm glad to this finally get some use. I love the "paint gun" and hope that you'll continue to use it your future maps. I didn't really see any problems that need pointing out in this map.
I have a question though, will you make it spray any different gel in future projects? I mean, Conversion Gel I doubt would be useful because I doubt Portal 2 gives the player the ability to swap from the Paint Gun to the Portal Device. However it might be interesting to see Propulsion Gel be used either in replacement of, or with the Repulsion Gel.
Great map definite 5/5.

I do. I want to make a map for advanced blue only, then an introduction to blue and speed gel, then advanced blue and speed gel.
A really creative idea and lots of fun. I would love to see it developed further so that you can control the direction of the paint a bit more. I'm just thinking of all the fun that can be had if you can swap between a paint gun and a portal gun.
You warned us about the gun's odd behavior in the description, so I won't bother to comment on the specifics of which you are obviously already aware. I will compare and contrast your method with reepblue's "A Little Higher". His blue cube didn't make sense like your gun does (go try and find a squirt cube in a toy store), but it squirted where it was pointed all the time. But his cube couldn't aim up and down like your gun does. I can't tell from this level what yours can do, of course, but you could put his cube down and use the portal gun. The ideal solution would be the best of both ideas (gun with reliable aiming that doesn't preclude use of portals). Given a choice of the two, I'd rather play puzzles with his cube than your gun.
This is the last time I'm going to comment on the level of detail in your maps. You clearly have an artist's sensitivities. Creating a giant brush and slapping a texture on it just isn't going to satisfy you. If that's how you want to spend your time, knock yourself out. What is the ideal quantity and quality of detail in a map is an highly subjective judgment, and what's too much for me is just right for somebody else. What isn't as subjective is my opinion that you are one of the most artistically gifted mappers in this community.
As a demo level, I think that the rating is irrelevant for comparison to complete maps, but I'll give it 3/5 because I do think the mechanic needs quite a bit more tweaking.

P.S. I would like mappers' comments on the fact that I am displaying netgraph 1 in my videos. Is this really helpful? Would cl_showfps be better? Or something else?
Nice concept for a change, but nothing I'd want to see often. Good job on the map though.

The map itself it's quite quick and easy, but the new concept of playing is awesome
Nice to see new ideas around here, I'm sure, that it was quite hard to make it work technically. I'm realy looking forward for sophisticated maps with this, or maybe coop, where one will have gel-gun and other will use portals might be also interesting
I'm quite sure that this concept can't really be used for more difficult levels since you only have only one test element.
I like the coop idea; give the player the option for the paint gun OR the portal gun, and give the paintgun the option to change the paint type to bounce, speed, conversion or water. You could do some interesting stuff with that
Thanks for this. I love Tag, so this was really a treat.
There were a couple technical issues, but that is to be expected when trying a concept like this.
For example, I accidentally threw my gun (by pressing 'E') the first time I played, so I had to restart.

Then at this part of the level, the paint wouldn't shoot where I was aiming. Even on my second playthrough, it did the same thing.

The level of detail of the map was just crazy. And the way you did it with the grating and carefully placed wood would be very conducive to Conversion Gel usage. In fact, I'm now motivated to start learning to use Hammer.
