Description

This is my first "real" Portal map, took about a week. Its medium to easy difficulty I would say. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for playing!

Good for your first. I think it had some good ideas. Like putting the x cube into the slot. The only issues I have are that there are lots of misaligned textures. Also it seems that the fizzler should fizzle the cube, but it dosen't. I know it has to be like that for the puzzle to work, but there has to be some other way to do it. Also, an env_soundscape earlier in the level would be nice, that sparking noise started to annoy me after awhile. Also the indicator was backwords on the door.

Other than those few issues, pat yourself on the back. Good work!

Thanks for playing the level and letting me know what you think! I tried really hard not to have misaligned textures, but I must of missed some, dangit. Ya I thought about having the cube fizzle just to be funny and then a new cube would drop into the room below or something. I agree about the sparking noise, I should just have a local ambient play near it maybe or something.

Thanks for the tips!

I got some weird stuff in this map - pink-black checkerboards, HOM-effect and some wireframe-like things

Is this map maybe for the original portal?

Yes it is for original portal, I thought I put it under that section. Try it in Portal 1 Mek, if you want to play it still.

Sorry about the confusion.

I got wrong textures everywhere. Can't play the map. Everything is white and purple.

@wismeril

Did you run it in portal 2 or the original portal? Its for the original portal and I did not use any custom textures or anything so it should work fine.

The whole game crashes if you fall in the pit with all the boxes. You don't just die, the entire game crashes.

And it was tough to figure out what to do exactly. I mean there is no way to guess the x block is required. Some kind of hint would be nice.

@Quovatis

I remember encountering that bug when I was making that room and forgot to fix it. I will have to make an update.

Also, I was hoping the X would help signify you need that box as the others do not have an X on them. But maybe some additional hints are needed, I was hoping for a bit more feedback to get a better idea of how people reacted to that part.

Perhaps put an "X" in the hole by the button?

Yes, I have run it in Portal 2, that's why it bugged... will try in P1 later

I agree with what's been said. Not bad for your first but needs polishing. I realised that there is an X-marked cube just after reading this thread. I was able to jump over the fence and then die by jumping into the pit where the cubes were supposed to fall. Also, the fizzler didn't fizzle cubes, only portals. It has to be like that for the puzzle to work but such things should be avoided at all costs in custom maps. Don't forget to put indicator stripes in, to join the door with the button (and, the indicator sign was backwards as someone already pointed out).
A soundscape right from the beginning would add to the atmosphere, also, please learn how to use portal bumpers, they make the play much more enjoyable.
So, that's pretty much all. You still have to learn a lot but I think you have the potential.

Thanks for the feedback. I used Portal bumpers where I thought it was required, but not on all portable surfaces. I will keep the other points in mind for future maps.

For the first chamber, I went up the small room (where there are two switches and a cube behind glass) but when I didn't figure out how to get it out, I went back to the room, stood on the button and when the door opened I created a portal just behind the door and then entered it without getting the cube. Was this intended and the upper smaller room was just to confuse? Or did I cheat-entered it?!

I did complete the map though.
