kizzycocoa: I don't know what you're thinking. you do not have something containing 83 elevators, maps and content to go with all of those in a paltry 20 mb.
Now, Remmiz was, at the start, being somewhat overly critical. But by this point I'm sorry to say you've lost all credibility. Seriously. 83 elevators.
Hint: You're doing something VERY wrong.

If, however, this beta proves to be as good as you (and your testers) suggest. I shall stand thoroughly corrected, everything shall be taken back, and I'm fairly certain the entire community shall bow before you.

well, I can't see any obvious mistakes. unless you took one or two and blew them out of proportion :/

um, do you even know the predicted release date?
we plan the release in janurary.

and there may be more releases.

so, we're still at the concept stage. hell, this mod could be very big at the end :S
and-as I have said before-I DOUBT this mod will cause a huge stur. many of my team think it's too big, I think it's simple once we have the complicated hub out the way. we plan to release in MONTHS, not days. more time to work on it=better quality.

Why the hell are you posting information about it now then? Bloody hell man, you are the worst PR person I've ever seen. Everyone on this forum thinks your mod is going to be half-assed, terrible and completely unplayable because of these obscene previews you have told us about and your complete lack of knowledge in the modding field.

we plan to release a beta soon. that's why.
the full version is available later.
the beta features all sections shown so far.
I believe many mods have done that so far.
let me just browse moddb and I'll give an example
checks
Portal: Project-Beta
Half-Life 2 Portal
Aperture D?j? vu

not to say in any way they will be bad, but they have all released a demo and are working on a real version.
we are doing the same, only we are more behind than them, and due to bad beginnings, we have a bad reputation. not that many other comments have helped, such as "it's completely rubbish" and "I can't wait to poop on it"

and yes, we have put these threads out early. for 2 reasons.
1)we had no publicity, and I needed a group as I couldn't make this on my own. and I was very lucky to get who I got.
2) to see if our idea was even remotely likable.
so far, we have only had 3 negative responses, 9 negative responses, but with helpful tips, and 19 positive responses (all mainly based on forum replies, comments etc.)

so, sure. insult my PR skills as much as you want. but we have achieved what these posts and profiles were primarily created for. (bolded to avoid even further arguments)

ok, looking back, that did seem a little uncalled for. sorry if it was a bit too "in your face"
but these threads had 3 purposes to be honest.

1)to help get a team together.
2)to try and get the public opinion on the mod idea.
3)to show that we're trying to revive portal. as (to be completely honest) things are very quiet here.

and this is my favorite game ever. it would be pretty hard to find one better! I don't want it to die

I agree, it's my favorite game too and I don't want it to die either.

But I'm thinking you've got almost everyone here expecting something we've never seen before and it's going to be great if not superior. With the way you're talking it up sometimes it makes me wonder if your not digging yourself a hole. This group is not easy to impress.

I didn't say it was superior, I can't make that assessment without playing it first. I'm just saying that you're building this up big time and when expectations are high going in, it usually crashes.

I'm really looking forward to this, but I have this expectation that it's going to be something huge, bigger and better than the original. I know you never said that, but that's the way it's coming across.

we are pleased to announce we have successfully created the main interface!

we now have the options:
new game
load game
developer commentary
find server
create server
options
quit
antlion (to test the menu function. this was added, then our coder had to manually add the others after seeing it worked)

we have yet to actually test the MP function, but we expect a 70% probability it will work. the actual portals etc, are yet to have been tested either. we're not sure on them.

on a side note, if anyone knows how to open PS3 games on a PC, we could really use help for that.
why? we can't say. but it will be epic (should we get permission to actually use it).

you're right. I can't. not alone.

however, I can. but with help from my team. an excellent team selection at that.

a very good coder, a group of 5 brilliant critics for ideas, the heads of the group, who come up with more and more ideas every day, and an advanced mapping DVD I got for my birthday.

sure, for now, it won't reach P-P's standards, or many other mod's standards. but standards are different. for now, we are making a mod to appeal to adventurers first. that is our primary goal. and our only standard for now is to suit that gaming mode.

once our adventurer template is made, we will make more versions

one for the people who like puzzles, which will be implemented in each version to fit portal's theme.

one for the type of person who likes to hear our idea of how everything fits.

then, one for the people who like survival and tense games.

we know, this is a big challenge. no, a huge, ambitious challenge.
and it won't happen overnight. we know this. we aren't stupid.

but development will get quicker once the first version is released.

the template will take a good few months to fully complete, but the following mods will get easier as we can redesign the template to suit many people's favorite gameplay modes.

this is-for now-just an adventurer mod. once we've completed it, we will work on the next mod. which will be a seperate version.

I assure you, I can't do this. but **we** can.

What I mean is, it's not possible to create a mod using the Portal code. It's not available. You can't change coding.

The other "mods" are just map packs.

Someone actually paid $50 for that DVD? What a waste of money (PS - The VDC has more information than any of those DVDs could fit onto them.)

but you can decompile the files that portals runs on... i have done it... i was trying to mod portal so that the timer counted in milliseconds rather than seconds...
you can decompile all the source code to C# then edit it...
