OK, continuing the space-time continuum paradox subject. For a nearly dead forum, this is kinda interesting.
Half-Life 2: Episode One arrived with a trailer of Episode Two. Yet, the Orange Box was shamelessly delayed.
So, considering there hasn't been a trailer for Episode Three yet... Does that mean it might take up to years before it finally arrives?
Hell, I certainly hope it didn't get stuck in development hell. We all know what development hell did to Duke Nukem Forever...

That sounds logical... if you don't think about it for more than three seconds.

This applies to everything.
And now my statement is no longer logical (stupid slow typing)

God I hope not. If it gets stuck in "development hell" it'll be lost forever.

Let's count.
Ep1 came out in June 1, 2006. The Orange Box - October 10, 2007. Not to forget that The Orange Box was 3 games (Ep2, TF2, Portal.)
What Valve said is that the space between Ep2 and Ep3 will be bigger than the space between HL2 and Ep1 and between Ep1 and Ep2.
So the formula is like this:
Ep3 release date (short Ep3) > L4D2 (since Valve's L4D thing is almost trademark) + (Ep1-HL2) (the bigger space);
Ep3 > Nov 18, 2009 + (Jun 1, 2006 - Nov 14, 2004);
Ep3 > Jun 5, 2011.
And in "development hell" case, HL3 would still arrive about a year (HL2 - Source engine) later. That's just not how you fail the fans.
Sidenote: At least Ep3 (and even HL3 in case of development hell) falls to be before 2012 Apocalypses (Dec 21, 2012).

So it's lost forever right?

I said before the 2012 Apocalypses, not after.
EDIT: Sidenote: 2012 Apocalypses is a fail, but one year after this is Seven Hour War.

The point is, 22 December 2012 is not the date the Mayan calendar ends, it's the date the Mayan Calander ends a cycle and starts a new one.
Really, we survived the 6th of June in the years 6, 1006 and 2006, so we'll survive 2012, too.

But it's still lost, isn't it?

Why would it?
The only thing I'm afraid that can be lost is my life (but that's way too improbable, so I'm not).
Even if Portal 2 and/or HL2: Ep3 happen to be lost, you can say nothing as long as Valve is not bankrupt.
EDIT:

It's like me discussing it with my friend: "You know about the Mayan 2012 Apocalypses?" "Yeah. The 5th cycle starts on Dec 22, 2012." "It's like - the 5th cycle doesn't exist?" "The point is that it exists."
I do believe that Valve will eventually release Portal 2 and HL2 EP3, but I think we have a very long wait.

The point is, even CCP regulary release information regarding a patch called Incarna for the game EVE Online. It has been in production for years, the set release date has shifted from 'When It's Done' to 'Soon' and back again several times, and some people are starting to give up hope they'll see it in their lifetime, but still, CCP keep the EVE players updated. Why, only recently they released a small teaser, only a few seconds, but nonetheless a clue they are working on it.
Valve, on the other hand, has remained almost shamelessly quiet about Half-Life 2: Episode Three, with the exception of some concept art showing (HL2:Ep2 SPOILER WARNING) the Borealis, an icy chasm, and lots of Advisors.

Where can I see this "teaser"?
What, EVE Online? You mean, the Incarna patch teaser?
I couldn't possibly imagine why someone who doesn't play EVE Online (or do you?) would be interested in a patch for the game, but...

If they went bankrupt. there's no way they could release the thing. They could make it, Steam would still exist (of course on another company), but there's no Valve to release it.
