Map database

Hey everyone,

I'm new here, so first of all I'd like to introduce myself! My name's Craig, and I'm a developer from England. I dabble in quite a few things, but recently I took to Portal 2 development. Just over a week ago, a friend and I decided that we'd try to help the modder community by providing a central resource for players to find maps to play. So, that we did.

We've pretty much just finished work on two things:
- A website with map listings, screenshots and more, in a nice and easy to use format, and allows authors to submit more.
- A tool (Windows only, sorry!) which allows you to browse installed maps, install more very, very easily from the website, and launch them.

Our intention is simply to provide the resource - not create a new community - so do not fret. I was going to PM msleeper about this before posting, but wasn't able to as a newly-registered user, so I apologise if I've stepped on toes here - isn't intentional. For that reason, I have not provided the address we'll be using.

My question to you all is: does this interest you? If you've any questions, please just ask.

ThinkingWithPortals.com has been the top Portal and now Portal 2 map database and "a central resource for players to find maps to play" since 2007. Check out maps here.

Also be aware that you do need author permission to rehost files. And on that token, please don't spam PMs to our members. Thanks.

Heya! I'm aware of the database - but we believed we could do better at presenting it and making everything more user-friendly, is all. We're primarily web developers afterall!

And the download database script we are using is a major mod/addition with integration into the forum, written by a German developer in a PHP short hand that I struggle to understand and make updates to.

I remain on stand-by for any updates you need, msleeper.

Snowman,

The upload database as it stands now has no major front-end issues in my opinion as a developer. The only thing we're missing is screenshots I suppose, but we can add that at anytime. It just isn't worth migrating the whole database (which is huge) to a new CMS just for one feature.
