I think the term you're looking for is "clubhouse". As in.

I like the community environment. keeps us all friendly and helpful. If I ever were to go anywhere for Portal advice, I'd choose here first.

I am the Club King. Somebody else can be president, but as you can see from my title I am obviously King.

Also, you guys are all hobos.

Can hobos own houses? If not, I regret to say I am not a hobo.
Also is clown makeup mandatory for this hobo cult?

Hobos aren't clowns. They're hobos.

Very funny.

I would see someone on the outside seeing that, but I'm open for more people to join. That I guess we are too tight that people would seem to be 'intruding' or something. I dunno how to explain it, but I do agree that there is an unwelcoming feeling here although it's not really intended.

It's difficult to say without really being an outsider, but I think that one reason for that sense is the fact that we've really been the same group of people, more or less, for coming on 2 or 3 years now. Some minor members come and go, but we all know each other and have nostalgia for how things used to be. Times changed, and we only sort of updated, so now the "odd backwater portal forum" effect is amplified.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I think it's just the opposite. When I relaunched the site I didn't really think we'd suddenly become the next TWP, I relaunched it so that we'd have some place to talk and hang out again. When mAL's database went down, we hung on for a year almost, without the main purpose of the site that had brought us together.

The mission with the site now, does not necessarily exclude the attraction of new members, as it's always great to meet new people who share our interests, but does not focus entirely on that either. If that were the goal, I wouldn't have sat down and coded the database from scratch - I did that so that it would be tailored to our needs and interests and could be relied upon (for the most part) as long as we needed it.

I was thinking about this the other night and I really wouldn't care if we never became "popular." So long as people still come around here and discuss, even if it stops being about portal maps, I would gladly keep paying the bills.

TL;DR: it's a duckin' clubhouse. Hell, we even have injokes.

I like how you did the community spotlight. Congrats again to Copper; his map's image looks good in its glorified place.

I was going to implement badges today, but then dota 2 came along.

I'm starting to see the appeal of these type of games. There's a LOT to learn, but once you learn it, it becomes very fun.

I got a beta key a week ago, give or take a few days. I know the basic mechanics and gameplay from reading guides and watching LoL but I still die a lot more than I'd like, and that's against easy AIs.

My most recent game (read: my third game I've ever played ) went fairly well, only died twice. You've got to master the art of running away.

It seems that there is a lot of complex strategy going on, though. Ganking and carrying and...stuff. I kinda get the general gist but I've been unable to do more than kind of generally attack things with easy bots. Be nice if we could get together a noob's league or something and try an actual game.

I don't go to school at the moment. So I can simply do what ever I want when it comes to video games.

Surprised I hadn't seen it posted yet. Then again, I'm pretty much the only one here not part of rH, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised?
