Uploading Guide

Is there anyway someone could create an uploading guide?

This would be so that new people know not to upload playground maps, full bright maps etc. It would also help the new users to the community with how they upload maps.

As when I came to the forums, I had no idea how to upload a map, which file to upload etc. I only know now because someone told me after I uploaded the .vmf file.

So maybe a sticky or a link to the sticky before you can upload?

I'd suggest there be something added to the upload page, in an extremely obvious, impossible-to-miss-without-deliberately-ignoring-it spot, specifically stating that playground, fullbright, etc. maps are forbidden. So far it looks like the only place this rule is even mentioned is in the announcement threads detailing the site rules, and 98% of people never really read those...

The system for uploading files could be made a little clearer too. It took me a while at first to realize I had to go all the way to the index area for the category I wanted to upload to to find the actual upload link.

That's what I didn't realise as well.

But yeah, it needs to be made obvious...otherwise it creates more work for the staff.

Go ahead and write it up, we'll reply and let you know if anything should be added, and then sticky it.

I would, but I lack the knowledge of knowing what file types are allowed. All I know so far are .bsp and .vpk.

Are there any others?

As I need info from members on what they want to be in the guide. As I myself have little knowledge to what file types mods and prefabs and stuff like that have.

If members contribute in this topic, I shall write it up.

If I recall correctly, .nut scripts are disallowed because they should really be in a zip. On that note, zips and, I THINK, rars, are allowed.

The preferred filetypes are Zip, Rar, and 7z. I can get a list of all filetypes allowed if that's absolutely necessary - but I would rather encourage people to use one of these three very common compression formats.

Sorry, I forgot to make it clear in my earlier post. I know the three main compression file types. I am talking about the file types allowed within those, to be compressed and uploaded.

I don't think we really restrict that. If you want to upload a nut or whatever file, if you think players will go to the trouble of installing it, go for it.
