Portal Flash Game
Posted by User 1 • 2007-10-10 21:10
Found this earlier today and spent a good 30 minutes or so playing it. Think of it as our version of Codename: Gordon. It is pretty entertaining, and can keep you thinking with portals while you're at work or school and away from home.

Anticipation Grows
Posted by Grudge • 2007-10-08 16:17
As i'm sure we all know, The Orange Box content is being unlocked on the 10th of October. Two days away and anticipation grows deeper. What i'm sure we're all looking forward to the most is Portal. We need to no longer just have our on-acid ideas put on paper, but be put to the test and made in Hammer!

There are loads and loads of Videos floating around to spice up your wait for Portal, if it's not already as spicy as a hot chilli pepper, look for the thread in the General Discussion area of the Forums.

Just in case, I thought i'd tease you a little bit and add a few pictures to the front page...

Now in the meantime, get registering, get taking part, but most of all... get thinking with Portals.

Orange Box Preview with PHL

The PlanetHalflife guys have the full preview of The Orange Box titles Episode 2 and Portal up. Check it out, it's a great read and has some more new screenshots.

Portal offers Half-Lifers a more unique challenge experience when it comes to the games they play. You won't be mowing down combine or saving the world from oblivion, but simply having fun and challenging not only the game, but yourself as well with puzzles. Any age can play this game and have fun, and you soon find out how addicting the game is. The only thing that could tear me from Portal during my playtest was Episode 2, and I really had to use the bathroom by that point too... it's pretty easy to get lost in Portal.

Anyone else notice they misspelled Aperture Science? Hah!

Interview With Portal Developers
Posted by User 1 • 2007-10-01 16:19
The guys over at PlanetHalfLife.com have scored a great interview with Portal developers, Kim Swift and Jeep Barnett. They talk about the original concept and how they came to Valve, the developement of Portal, and more. There are also a few never seen before screens, and a new gameplay video!

Quote:
Jeep: Exactly. It allows user input at any time to change the physics system. It was a big issue, but ... we did it (laughs).

Pratt: Yeah, when I was doing ... "15" I think it was ... I had to find enough of a drop in order to be able to force myself over the wall - so I literally had to make another beginning and end point on my way down. I had to sort of snap around and do that.

Chief: And I did it a completely different way where I went up the side of the wall.

Kim: And that's what's fun about our game - It's really interesting to watch how people solve each particular puzzle. Because it is so open you can place Portals almost everywhere. Everyone solves the puzzle in a different way.
