No, I meant that I know what instances are for. I was asking him if he wants to think about it.

Point is, instances are good for time saving.

Point is, instances are good for time saving.

And it's also easy in case you want to change things throughout a series of maps, remember that portal 2 has quite some maps, if you have instances for lights for example and you want to change the light model, if you change the instance it automatically updates in all your maps (as soon as you compile it). Same goes with cubedroppers, faithplates etc.

If you change the original all the copies change, which is the biggest improvement over prefabs. And I'm sure VALVe used it as they updated things like cube droppers.
