SFM Videos in Portal 2 Maps

Hello TWP Community,
I was wondering if there was any way to insert a custom SFM video into a Portal 2 map. Kind of like the one at the end of Art Therapy. My sources say no on this one. But I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for an alternate route.
Thanks all
And Happy Holidays!

Hello, Ace,

In fact, there is! You need to convert your final video to a BIK using the Rad Video Tools, then insert it into a map with the logic_playmovie entity.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to do this on the Workshop. You will need to distribute your map the old way.

Alternatively, you can split your video into frames and use it as an animated texture that displays in front of a view control entity.

Extract the audio from the movie and make an ambient_generic.

Thank you for all your ideas. However the video I have the intention of creating and adding is flexibly a minute long. And either it would go in a workshop map or not at all. I don't see how I could fit a minute's worth of video of 24 fps in an animated texture, or even in the map. :notwant:

To be honest I'm not proposing this idea to entertain everybody. I'm proposing it because I want to try something that I have not seen thus far, and it works for the idea I have in mind. I don't know why you think I have a target audience. If it appeases you in any way, I was planning on giving the option to skip.

Logic_playmovie should automatically do that. A BIK is really the best choice for showing a video, unless you want to painstakingly rebuild your SFM setup in Hammer with tracktrains and func_rotatings.

But, Felix, I was told logic_playmovie's can't be included in maps exported to the workshop...

No, they can't. But it's really your only option, other than using a script to pop up an overlay with a YouTube link.

If you really want to do it that way, I can explain it. But it won't look nearly as nice and will be limited to about 1/4 of the player's screen space (I have no idea what would happen if you used fullscreen mode on the video).

Ya, I'd really rather not do the youtube idea  I'd either have to find some other way or abandon it completely

Well as long as I have the approval of the great iWork925, then I suppose I can give up. :boring:
