Congrats. I have never lost more respect faster. Ever noticed that I rarely post my own maps, but rather help others? Team Citruz, Portal Stories, Portal Repercussions... Go ask 13aboon, shawy89, ram64, etc who taught them how to use hammer.

EDIT: We're straying from the topic. Ace, you can also put your map on the workshop and give people a link to download the BIK file from TwP and install it manually. If you put a script with the video you can also check if it's installed when the map runs.
||I agree with your sentiments, but the majority of your posts (referring only to the ones I've seen, so not including the one-on-one help you've given those mappers) seem to be negative and discouraging toward new members. "I'd rather set my computer [on] fire and kill myself [than] answer you[r] idiotic, inane question", "This mod sounds boring", "Your haircut make you look like a girl...Rate this 0/10", and "Its just some kid who need gratification for every little achievement for some reason" (after the OP had already been directed to a more appropriate thread) sound to me to be intended to anger people rather than give any sort of constructive criticism or help them improve. All of the posts I linked are in response to new or inexperienced posters, who presumably know very little about mapping and such. If I had gotten a similar response when I first tried to learn Hammer, I probably would have given it up immediately.
You're justified in your response to my post, but I don't want to drive noobs like Ace (who apparently want to actually learn) away from the site by telling them to "abandon it completely" rather than trying to help them get off the ground.||

I completely disagree; and you seem to have brought up the same points I and others have already disproven. I LOVE helping people, ask anyone who knows me. It is what I do for a living, and what I do here. Also, the examples you have provided do not adequately support you claims. In not one of those links am I commenting on anyones mapping skills. I fully support and encourage PTI user to start learning hammer; and I will even devote time to helping them and I have already done exactly that a few times. Having read your responses both in this thread and the ones you've linked to, I believe that you are just whiteknighting.

That may be, but I don't know you and have no way to know what you do for a living.

"I'd rather set my computer [on] fire and kill myself [than] answer you[r] idiotic, inane question" was in response to a question about mapping.

Believe whatever you want.
I agree that I was probably wrong about your personality; obviously I'm acting on incomplete information here, as I've never met you IRL and haven't seen your private conversations.
ANYWAY: Felix Griffin, that was a good idea about just linking the .bik file in the description, I might just end up doing that, if all else fails. Thanks for your continued help

Maybe on the cover art it could say, "Read Description." or the title would include something on reading the description.
that's not too elegant and there might be a few people who wouldn't wanna mess with it that much. but of course the mapmaker could decide to not care about those people.
what are the limitations of making the video into an animated texture? like is there a maximum number of frames you can put on one, do they eat your memory if you have too many, or maybe they just look ugly? I also wanted to do something like this - I will probably never finish that project, but it doesn't hurt to know..
It's fairly easy to set up a script to bring up text on map startup if downloaded files are missing. You could try that. Just set up one script (packed in) which displays the text and closes the map when you leave the elevator, and another (in the download with the movie) which blocks the first one before it can have an effect.
Like I said before felix went all whiteknight on me, I suggest either doing some sort of trailer type deal with youtube or have a point_viewcontrol look at something in the map.
What I think I'll do is upload it only to TWP initially, so that it can be experienced in its intended way.

Maybe this is a bit much, but could your video be done with point_viewcontrols and prop_dynamics?
I have seen this done before in maps and it can be quite a nice effect. Remember that pbody easteregg in the later wheatley levels.
