VPK problems

Hello! I am making a game using the portal 2 version of source. I have it running out of portal2_dlc3. I have packed my custom materials and models into a vpk, for ease and because I am overwriting the turbine elevator textures to get rid of all those ugly apertures. However, I have 2 maps so far. The first uses a couple custom textures and one new model. The second uses a couple new textures and the elevator. The second map loads fine no matter what, but I need the vpk to be pak01_dir or else the textures don't overwrite, but if they do, the first map crashes p2 once it's loaded.
Help?

You don't need to override those textures really - hex a copy of the model to point to a different location, and then you can use that in your maps without a VPK.
