Is there anyway to select overlays in hammer? Whenever I try, it always selects the brushes underneath instead. I've tried looking through the view and map settings, but I can't figure out how to fix it. This is really frustrating.

You need to select the actual entity. Get close to the center of it, it should be a yellow box or something that says "Overlay" on it, I believe.

It's blue and it's small and it's semi-transparent. But it should be there. Otherwise it's probably a decal and it got a weird pink-green goofy thing instead of a box.

Is there any way to select an overlay without clicking on the tiny selection box? In a large complex map, they are near impossible to locate, especially when there are several overlays close together

Not that I know of. You could always use the Entity Report but that is still a bit of a pain in the ass.

Generally I spot them on one of the 2D-views first, then I fly there in the 3D-view. But that doesn't resolve the issue of a complex map. Maybe you should group objects, so that you may disable a few when trying to reach for your overlays.
