What is the difference between CLIP and INVISIBLE?

The dev wiki does not explain it well, and I cannot find the differences between them

If you use an npc_clip, npc's cannot go through it, but everything else can, if you use a player clip, everything can go through except the player. Invisible blocks everything.

I am assuming you you are talking about the red "CLIP" texture and the normal (only) INVISIBLE texture.

The invisible texture is exactly what it sounds like, an invisible texture. It shares the same respects as a typical material texture you just can't see it. Including cutting up VIS leaves and being usable on entities.

The red CLIP texture is designed to block NPC and Player movement, as well as being invisible of course. Even though it stops NPC's and players, it will allow bullets, objects and other junk to pass through it. It also does not cut up VIS leaves or geometry. On a brush, if you use anything but the CLIP texture it wont work.

Like hanging_rope said, if you want to block only NPC's or Players, use the individual CLIP textures.

Thanks, that cleared up a lot.

I couldn't find this when I made my original post, but here it is now (I guess I totally forgot to check Edit Life for it).

Nodraw is not rendered, Invisible is. It sounds weird, but Invisible is essentially a texture with no content, whilst Nodraw means no texture at all. I'd recommend Nodraw, though Invisible is more useful in some cases.

Yes, but don't. Try putting a nodraw brush in the middle of a map and tell me what happens.
