20 portals run ^

after i uploaded it i watched it and realised a few bits of the editing were pretty bad, but it will do...

Heh, once again someone uses decorational props to "cheat" in my maps. I have to be careful about that in the future. I also see that you do tunneling (have I understood this term right?). It's also something I consider cheating (partialy because I suck at it). Bouncing the balls around with the cube however, isn't really cheating.

So... I would never have the patience to do all those things myself and neither will I expect someone to do them to achieve the gold score. But if there were platina...

Can't say that I've ever done that before. It looked as if the box was lagging behind until it just couldn't keep up with you anymore.

Well, I put it through the portal, then the portal closed, so I think it might have been confused and put the cube outside the wall. I'll try to do it again and record it this time.

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this, but you can totally ABH to the portal gun in the first chamber o.o;; It's not a massive glitch, but its more than nothing.

And damn you map makers and your anti-OOB! different route is just different!

[edit after completion]

Very cool map, the turret hallway with the e-fields was very annoying, but since I already had both guns (from the ABH glitch I mentioned) it wasn't horrible...IMO it was the worst part of the map. Challenging is one thing, but turrets are just something I'm not a fan of.

Another glitch: In the cube carry platform section, it was very easy to just portal stand+peek to get everything done, skipping most of the "puzzle" element.

Kudos to your map sir!

Siiig, your post came just right in time, because I was about to release an update of this map. Too bad I don't understand what you're writing ABH and OOB?

"portal stand+peak" ?

Siig is a speedrunner. ABH is a technique that makes you go really fast. It stands for accelerated Back hop.
OOB is when you portal yourself outside the map, so you are on the outside wall of the map: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O-7d01q ... re=related

Heh sorry, troughs are terms that just come naturally to me. I'll throw you some pictures to show you what I mean.

I was going to do screenshots, but I figured demos would be more fun haha.

To use these, throw them into your portal/portal folder (the one with the maps folder in it), then playdemo (the demos name) in console.

Hope you enjoyed the glitches XD. I threw some more in because I noticed them on the spot.

Thanks for explaining . It was a good idea to make the demo files, Siiig. I understand what you're doing now, but I only managed to do the glitch when you put a portal on the other side of a wall/window/fizzler.

I assume there's no way to protect the map from these glitches, so I'm just going to release the new version as it is.

Actually, metal. I love my glitches but I would never not tell you how to fix them haha. That's why I'm here. If you put metal above the fizzler, metal around the top edges of the map (just, some more) you could prevent the portal bumping (that's when you shoot a portal through a wall/field/glass wall).

The portal standing and peeking I did are another story though. Since those are game mechanics, there's really no way to fix them. I found another few glitches, I'm working on a straight through run of the map that'll showcase everything I found for you.

Once again, in regards to fixing these haha, metal.

[Edit for great justice]

So, since this didn't even beat the best completion time achievement, I'm a bit ashamed to call it a speed run...but for now it's the best I'm going to put out. Each puzzle just has something that can easily go wrong (miss the ABH, get killed by the turrets, ball hitting puzzle (oh how I hate that puzzle)).

Out of curiosity, what was the basis of your speed completion achievements?

teh run

Thanks for the demo file, it was fun to watch. What's even more fun is that my time, by solving the puzzels the conventional way, is better than yours . However, I must admit that I used the quicksave and quickload functions. I guess you think that's cheating, but hey, those functions are not exploatation of any bugs . My ambition wasn't to make a straight, fair speedrun, but to make a good assumption of how fast such a speedrun would be. As you wrote, many things can go wrong. Tip: look at the lines between the floor tiles and the shadow of the cube to get a 45 degrees angle.

Haha yeah, per chance did my route take a completely wrong path? (it felt like it did because of the times I was getting). Oh and save/loading is by no means cheating haha, I generally don't do it because it becomes a different type of speed run.

The most frustrating thing was the turret hallway, I'm only guessing, but do you use the energy ball to knock them down?

No, I don't use the energy ball to knock them down. That would be practically impossible. You can see the solutions I had in mind when I created the map in this walkthrough video I made.

I took your advice and did a save/load run. This is what I came up with haha. Dunno how this compares to your best, but I'm pretty happy with this...now just need to do it in one run =X

Well, typically save loading is not cheating but, you can certainly do it to perform a special glitch known as the Save/Load glitch, it basically lets you walk into a wall since the game saves thinking you're inside of it, as if the wall is a flat surface underneath you. It gives you a new walk-way, but there aren't a whole lot of places to use it very effectively where just doing the map normally wouldn't be the same speed/faster.

So far, it took me 22 demo's, but I was able to complete the map in 17 portals. When I get around to getting Fraps I'll take a few hours to get a video together; lots of item climbing and portal tunneling to do it.

Unbelievably well-made map sir.

Gold standard: 31 portals
Portal count: 17
Estimated total time: 14-20 hours, between retake after retake to get parts done and staring at the puzzles for about two or three hours each to make absolute sure I used as few portals as possible.

... O.o?

I wonder what people will consider cheating next. I'm glad this place isn't the standard hehe.

Ignore claims of cheating shrug if they don't like it, ask the map makers to make the walls harder to item climb on. Were here to help, and to have fun, we have fun using our glitches. Me and kich love competing with each other, and if you guys don't want to step to our league of competition, quite frankly you wont be missed.
