Rather than post some tiny thread, Ill just copy and paste our news from yesterday.

Quote:
It's been a hectic final month, first we recruited KernCore and then pushing for a new Demo/Minimod to be released on time. Well finally after much work I am pleased to bring you our second Demo or what you could call a mod in itself I guess, Project-Alpha.

The goal of Project-Alpha was to get another playable demo out to everyone, while still having some original Portal gameplay. We came to the conclusion that our second Demo should be a minimod in itself and be designed around the trailer version of Portal. Rather than continue to explain what exactly is in Project-Alpha, I will show you a quick video made by one of our testers.

Thanks to DZJB for uploading this quick little videos.

Video 2

Here is our entrance Chamber for a better look.

Here is our spike pit, and yes we know people wanted the fire high but that would result in some issues.

Here is a redone chamber from the original Portal, but designed to resemble and play like the trailer.

Before I end this article, I know a lot of you are itching to play, I would like to thank the following people for their support.
Hunterbrute
Caboose Jr
reepblue
CaveJ
Pelpix
KernCore
Snood
1/4 Life
Hen7
Koolfox
Shadowfreak
Omnicoder
DZJB
A.M.M.D.

Once again thanks to anyone else who helped out in any small way,I'll leave you with one last image and then you can go and try our latest Demo.

Download it here.

Usually a screen shot of a section of the map is taken. For PA, lets do something different.

People will think trailer after looking at this. And PA was based on the Portal trailer.

Downloaded it and played it. Have to say, I'm pretty impressed. The lighting has an incredibly effect on the mood, and when combined with the lack of GLaDOS voices, creates an entirely different atmosphere. The only problem is something that may have just been a glitch with my computer, 7Zip, the download, etc... Most of the particle systems associated with the ASHPD and portals themselves as well as fire particles can't be found. Is anyone else getting this? The only reason I noticed it was that the edges of portals seemed to be a bit rough; when I opened the console, warnings were flying up everywhere. Great maps, though. It's a lot of fun playing, especially with aspects that are just different enough from the original game to trigger a mental doubletake.

To make the portals resemble the trailer we had to remove particles, rather than waste time and edit them one by one, I deleted all the particles that arent needed.

The trailer did not have these particles in at that time. That is what we did to remove the extra particles.

It might be using DX 8, or maybe the download got corrupted somehow.

Is there any chance you could post the MD5 sum so we can check?

Wow. This map was awesome! I really enjoyed it, and the fact that it looked like the trailer, and that i finally got to play the trailer maps was epic. I loved it. I think i like this better, so tell me: Will it work to replace the portals and player model in the actual portal with the ones from this mod? Also, i can't wait to play Project Beta. The male model was created nice, i was kinda impressed, but he looked a bit buggy. I don't know. I'll give this 4/5 portals:

Glad you liked it. As for porting the content into Portal, It will work but I will kindly ask you not to. For now, everything in Project-Alpha stays in Project-Alpha. I've made a SDK tutorial on the ModDB page waiting for approval. That will cover some techniques that KernCore used. The male and camera models are scraps from Project-Beta. Those models will be fix'd before the launch of Project-Beta.

Again, glad you liked it.
