Not able to figure this out myself, but how would you go about getting gel to cover things it shouldn't?

I know they did it in the part right before you get to wheatly's chamber, with the excursion funnel.

What do you mean "cover things it shouldn't"? Also don't bump a thread after 2 hours. That's dumb and I'm going to give you a warning if you do it again.

I mean like, when it hits something it only covers one square spot, but sometimes in the game it managed to spread further from there so it cleanly covered an entire area.

any leads on this?

To attempt to clerify further.

I have an angled spray, and I need to cover a wall. The only portable place is on the floor, and the gel effectively sprays onto the wall up to the top of the spray, and random splatters cover down to the floor (mostly). I still need it to go a little higher, and i'd like there to be a clean strip from top to bottom instead of the messiness that i get with this result.

Try looking at this thread. You're probably going to have to fake it one way or the other. You could try parenting your paint spawner to a func_rotating that rotates every so slightly at the beginning (to give you a little extra coverage). Or you can try tweaking with the paint spawn settings to make the blobs "larger" and thus cover more space.

The problem is I don't want the gel already there, I need it to stretch across a surface whenever the player sprays that surface

I've not actually tried this but I would imagine all the min/max values attribute to the randomness of the gel, which would consequently paint your surface. Varying parameters like min/max blob speed, spread radius and spread angle might help you achieve the whole area being painted as opposed to an accurate spot.

accuracy isn't quite the issue here, it's more of no matter where you place the portal, the paint can't reach as high as it needs to. Changing the speed messes up painting the other required parts of the chamber.

I believe they used the paint_sphere entity for the boss fight gel.
