So instances dont work for me. Really dont bother asking why. I have gone to many people and asked whats wrong and they have all come to this certain conclusion. SO that point aside is there any easy wat to make an elevator without instances? thanks in advance.

you can open the instance vmfs directly if they don't work for some reason. portal 2/sdk_content/maps/instances

You have saved the VMF of your map in a location that the instances/ directory can be located, and B.) you actually have the instances/ directory, and the instance you are loading is in the proper path.
