As a violinist, I can say that that is both unimpressive and sort of embarrassing to musicians in general. You could take the violin (and her) out and it'd sound almost exactly the same. But if you were saying 'wow' because you were in awe of the various positions she stretches herself into, I forgive you and would like to point out that this indicates sexual attraction.

Games shouldn't dictate your taste in music. People should stop fawning over people who do game music covers, they're just songs, and dressing up doesn't change anything.

I'm wowing over the fact that she randomly dances awkwardly while playing the violin....

And yes, as stupid as it sounds dressing up actually DOES make a difference. (not in music, quality or otherwise mind, but the video itself. People react differently to a person who doesn't dress up to a person who does.)

It's insane how close minded some people can be. Take "Poker Face". I can't count how many people say they hate that song, yet when someone does a metal cover on guitar suddenly "Wow this is amazing! Real music forever!". Stick a distortion pedal on a guitar laying the basic chords to a generic metal strum pattern and you're golden apparently.

Half of it is just because of hate of the person, not so much the song. A good example is Beiber - alot of people hate HIM, and his songs, but when it's parodied, it's suddenly golden.

The other half is because music taste is so diverse, it's like food. Some people will eat EVERYTHING, and others won't eat ANYTHING except a small pallette, and some(most) are in between. Likewise some people like all genres, others only like specific songs, and most have both.

In terms of parodies, that in itself might be why. I know I listen to game-related parodies of some songs far more often than the originals (for example, TNT, a Minecraft parody of Dynamite) and they often get alot more views than the originals. Ofc, this only accounts for online - not what's being played on your IPod or IPhone - so this is inaccurate, but i'd guess it's as accurate as we can get without surveys.

Lots of people listening to it doesn't make it good; vice versa is true as well. I guess this might belong in the music thread.

"Goodness" is relative. If lots of people consider it good, then it could be called good.

Musicians like yourself simply have different standards of goodness, based on knowledge of how music works.

The standards are somewhat universal, or music wouldn't work at all.

Key word is somewhat, hence why JB videos can have 300 million views while most people I've heard think his music is terrible.

Mainstream songs like JB are popular for a reason; they are the result of analysts finding the optimum result in regards to song structure, song content, timbral content, harmonic content, chord progressions, instrumentation and melodic lines. They are precisely engineered by professionals so that they target the maximum audience.

Actually, people usually like confident people, so that's why most girls like JB, or some boy bands because they are confident; and most of 'haters' (include myself in this) dislike the fact that people have attention on them and not on 'us'.

EDIT: If you take and example with myself, most MLP haters hate the show because it caught the bronies' attention. Just sayin'

99% of professional musicians are confident people out of necessity, as their job involves performing in front of people regularly. If you don't have confidence in your musical abilities, unless you make a seminal record, you're screwed.

"lol you just hate me because I'm a brony and proud XD XD rainbow dash omg!!!!!!!!!!fuck u MLP isnt for girls I'm proud of liking it amirite??? " That's why I don't like bronies [u:1zcxb2ed]in general[/u:1zcxb2ed]. I don't mind if you're a fan of something, but act like you're a fan of it, not religously devoted to it.
