Maybe we should move our toast metaphors and incredible works of art over to the Founder's Duck. They'd be in good company.

No more wiki discussion yay. Are we seriously considering the Perpetual Testing Initiative canon?

I consider it canon, relative to it's own alternate timeline.

I believe that our established timeline (Half-Life, Portal + Half-Life 2, Portal 2) is own timeline, with the "Cave Johnson still alive" and all it's alternate versions are all separate timelines, but canon to themselves.

Basically it's the "What-If" universe(s).

Its canon, but it takes place in a universe where people are made of stick figures; that's why Bendy is a stick figure.

Since, in multiverse theory, all universes are equally plausible, I say there's no "universe prime" as Cave puts it.

From what I see, there's 2 universes that are contained in the package that is Portal 2. There's the one where the plot takes place, which may or may not be the same universe as in Half Life, and there's the one where Cave survives past the moon rock incident. These are Universe ͨ and Universe ͫ respectively. C for canon, since that's what's to be considered "canon" in the Portal 2 storyline, and M for multiverse, since from what we've seen in the story of Portal and Half Life, there's no mention of a multiverse.

Basically I'm saying the multiverse isn't canon. Or shouldn't be. It would cause weird things if it was.

I disagree, but then again I believe there are parallel universes in real life too.

I think it's all canon. One good reason: There are infinite caves running around in other cave's test chambers, but by logic there must also be an infinite amount NOT doing this. Portal 2's campaigns is in one such universe.

So technically there's two Canons: P2 canon and PTI canon.

The existence of the multiverse does not cause any problems with current canon. Like grox says, there is in the idea presented an infinite number of every possible combination of anything we want to count. The Portal/Portal 2/HL events all take place inside of their own enclosure. Cave being alive and well takes place in many others. They all sort of spawn from the trunk of Aperture being founded and doing crazy science.

There's no inherent need to separate the PTI from other information entirely, because all of the other games and plots take place inside of one of the earths of the multiverse. It may make the events on that earth seem insignificant, but bigger-picture viewpoints like multiverse and universe-type setups tend to do that. It seems to be a pretty common tactic in comic books ("That version of Wolverine was a different universe where he met Magneto first while sitting on the toilet!").

...Just because there's no mention of a multiverse in these other games or in the Portal/P2 plotline doesn't mean they don't exist - it just means nobody knows or cares about them. And it kind of makes sense: the combine, despite their wide reach, seem to only be focused on one universe, and the existence of similar situations elsewhere doesn't exactly help the rebels in any way whatsoever. In Portal/P2, its not a huge stretch to say that in a universe where Cave died, nobody ever bothered to invent a multiverse device. Specifically, in the Portal/HL universe, nobody ever got that far because GLaDOS took over the facility and then everything went poo.

Oh my god. I was talking with BigOz and I had the realization;maybe Greg's creepy kid that we hear in the PTI was actually Chell. Since Chell's father is an Aperture Employee, maybe, maybe there is a family link...

I thought of that. Obviously. But Chell wanting to test forever and ever? And ever?

For me it just retcons the entire believability of the Half-Life universe. No canon for me thanks.

There's a universe where you do believe it, so we still got that.
