The First Official mAI Contest - Planning Thread

Rules seem legit, I like that there is not a God Damn Size limit!![]()
I would add the following.
If Portal 2, please don't make your map HAVE to use the Sixense. If you have a Sixense, please make sure that others with Sixenses can't break your map.
Don't include any files that modify or break anything without requiring a backup.
If you wish to cross models, textures and sounds, (i.e More Portal 1 models in Portal 2, and vice versa) package them in the BSP with pakrat.
I can't wait for this contest!
Good plan.
And by the way, there may be a size limit on the site of around 200 mb, just to make sure file transfers are okay. I need to remember to put somewhere that if you need something bigger than that hosted (e.g. a mod) then just email me, I can get it up via FTP.

Yeah of course the limit of the sites hosting, but you're not going to penalize anyone who goes over a certain limit like the mAL contests is what I meant. I also like your plan of offering more space if needed too.
also, if there will be judges I'd (still) like to sign-up for that

For the "To each entrant"-thing how about just a "... has entered 3 contests halb halb" on the profile/poster-thing to the right here

If you are judge this time, I hope you can get around to actaully judge, unlike the TF2 contest

I admit I was late to rate the 3rd map, but omni was slower...

In all seriousness, Portal/Portal 2 maps should be easier to judge, since you don't need to have a multiplayer game set-up like TF2.

Seeing as we've settled on the rules, when are we hosting it?
I hope sooner or later. But since you pretty much have the rules, I guess we can start brainstorming a few things until it officially begins.
So that leaves major holidays in the next few months. We could do around halloween but then there's the TF2 update and we don't really want to theme it so it's otherwise pointless. Around december/Christmas, when a lot of people have winter break, would be good but that's kind of far in the future at this point.
Anyone got any better ideas?

I say start it now since you pretty much handed out the rules to everyone. Just set the deadline like in January or something. I actually started to plan out my map already.

...January? Hmm...
I like it. I'll make an official announcement next week or so.
If your group wins, the prize will be split amongst everybody in the group, not duplicated for every member.
which begs, can multiple entries by the same user garner multiple prizes?

Definitely not.
You could probably be a contributor to (one) other's map, but you definitely could not submit more than one entry.

I would be willing/like to judge for the contest. The contest sounds like a great idea, you just need to come up with a catchy and clever title for the contest.
Ohai welcome! I saw you somewhere before, I just know it, I think on P0P's old minecraft server. Let's hope you have a good judgement
Make me win

How are people that aren't members supposed to know that the contest exists in the first place?
The point of the contest is to get the website known, so instead of going on other portal communities and going "GO ON OUR FORUMZ LOLOLOL" We can go "Hey we are hosting a contest on our website!"

But I'm pretty sure it's still considered as advertising our site, and I'm not sure we can do that on most websites (TWP).

No, we would advertise the contest itself, not our community/website. If people want to stay after the contest, they can stay, if they only wanted the prizes and enter the contest, good for them, if they wanted to see the submissions, good for them!
