Of course, a magician never reveals his secrets, but we're not magicians and I'm curious how this works. I really hope it's not what it sort of looks like, because it kinda looks like either a) you have 6 copies of the room with different orientations or b) the whole room rotates, and I hope it wouldn't be either of those because that wouldn't scale well. Care to elucidate your magicks?

Unfortunately it's the latter. I mentioned over on TwP a while ago that I knew how Omni had built his gel and why he had never released a map with it, and others asked me if I could build a proof-of-concept if I knew how he had done it. It doesn't scale well at all, and requires all the walls and ceilings to be covered in tiles of "Adhesion Grid" to detect the splatters and send the surface normal to the vscript.

One thing I did change from Omni's solution is how global it needs to be. I've found a way to make the effect work on only specific parts of the map, connected by world portals. And even though all the world geometry is tied to func_brushes, the sealing world brushes between the sections can help somewhat with visleaves.

I don't know how well it will work out, but hopefully well enough to build and release a small test with it.

Very cool. It makes me wonder how Valve was originally planning on building puzzles with that gel in mind... Oh hey, question!

Where did you get that addon/mod to have an actual hand on the Portalgun? I have something similar for Portal and have been looking for a Portal 2 version.

I'm not actually sure where, but it's in my portal2_dlc3 folder. I think it might have come from the Back-Stock team...

EDIT: Ben thinks it does, but the version I have is from here. I don't know if they're related or not.

No new video today, but I made some progress behind the scenes. Transitions are cleaner, you can walk straight from gel to ground, and cubes don't randomly freeze.

Cool! though in that test, couldn't you just ride the funnel over the grated part?

Yes, I've been looking for a way around that.

My current plan is to make the player stand on a button to activate the funnel, since various bad things happen if the player can get in it. For example, transitions between perpindicular surfaces are REALLY GLITCHY.

There we go, I now have three tests made up, one planned, and one from Radelite. If anyone else has Adhesion Gel ideas that they would like to add to the map pack (with credit of course), just send me a PM or a Steam message.

It's actually a quite nice little puzzle laid out in the PTI editor. I'm just rebuilding it in Hammer and adding the adhesion gel. If you think you can do better, why not show me?
