SteamOS/SteamBox Discussion
Wait. I can do this. Half-Box. Wait no. Still, its weird they're doing such a big reveal for something that isn't a game. Steam is (hopefully) breaking away from Valve though.

I think they already doing a good enough job lifting the Valve name from Steam.
Yeah, I knew they would be doing an OS as they scrambled to get Games and Steam to work on Linux, but I can't wait to see the "Box" of it. I wonder future Valve tools will work with SteamOS/Box/Linux as it will save money and worries down the line. Really looking forward to this, I may use this OS for my next "Gaming" rig, although I don't "game" that often, and my time will only shrink. I do have a "Linux" machine but it has out of date specs.

Basically the only thing keeping me on windows right now is Photoshop, which isn't likely to get a linux port any time soon. And even if it did, Adobe will be a cunt and only make it available for later versions/subscribers. I'm waiting to see how the new Paint.NET update coming soon turns out, if it's nice I might switch to that for most of my drawing/image editing.

That's funny being your father works for Microsoft "DUCK YOU DAD, WINDOWS SUKS!"
Only thing keeping me from Linux is yes, the Adobe tools, (Don't think they are gonna be ported being that not many "art" companies use Linux") Source Tools, Half my games, Me not knowing how to install GPU drivers correctly, etc. (Last one may be due to me using an older GPU, but whatever.)

Actually, my Dad left MS a couple years ago. Well, not left exactly, but his branch of the company moved out under new leadership and are not technically part of MS anymore. And he's tried Windows 8 and agrees that it's a piece of shite (would you believe they kept in the Metro components for the Server edition? As if anyone is going to make metro apps for servers!), and he agrees they've made a lot of bad decisions recently.
Of course, they could bring it back with Windows 9. If they restore aero, get rid of the screen-hogging piece of shit start menu, and basically reverse most of their big design decisions from 8 but keep the nice stuff like the task manager, I could be convinced to stay. If not, well, I'll have to see how well Photoshop works with WINE.

Not too well in my experience, unfortunately, although I'm not very good with WINE.
