Anxiety When Posting New Maps?

Do you ever feel nervous or anxious when you post a brand-new map? I just posted my very first one a few minutes ago, and I've found myself repeatedly refreshing the download page nonstop and worry if I forgot something important or the like.

Does anyone have ways to get around this? What are some things you do right after you post a map?

Don't worry, this is entirely normal.

I've been mapping for almost ten years, and I still get a bit anxious when I publish a new map.

Ah, and I remember my first time. What a rush!

Don't we all?

I have posted 2 so far, and I also checked back often to see if they'd been downloaded and if there were any comments. I think they kind of flopped, but they were some of my first efforts at mapping, so that's okay. I've got some newer ones I'm working on now, which I'm pretty anxious to post, once they're ready.

So long story short, I think it's normal to feel that way. Just remember, if your map doesn't go over well, it's a learning experience and you can always make more.

I'm surprised at how quickly you get people downloading and rating your map. I used to make games with Game Maker and post them on its website, and over there you got lucky if more than fifty people played your game after the first week!

If you join the right mapping community, you'll get the feedback you want.

It's such a thrill to get positive feedback from fellow gamers and mappers. But the constructive criticism is perhaps even more important. You really learn to become a better mapper from listening to feedbacks.

You just need a thick skin. Sometimes it can be hard to hear the criticisms.

This isn't exactly unique to mapping.

How do you fix it? Develop some self control and the ability to step away. Submit the map, then go do something else. Seriously.

To be honest, Hober, that's actually one of the main reasons I made this topic...

An XKCD fan? I think I love you...

This is entirely normal for every "post-a-selfmade-map-for-other-users-and-have-it-rated" thing. Ive had this several times for Starcraft II, [http://www.nmaps.net/](http://www.nmaps.net/) and Crazy Machines a game which is famous here in Germany. (Ive also done some things with gamemaker, but that was, when I was eleven.)
