Beta Elevator Model?

I was recently browsing through the model viewer when I found a model called elevator/elevator.mdl. It doesn't seem to be in game, is it maybe the beta elevator model?

I'm not at home so I cant use model viewer, but if memory serves me correctly this is the model used in Portal 1.

It looks like a cross between the portal 1 and 2 elevator.

I dont think it would be a beta. Because if they improved it they would overwrite it. Maybe it is just something they made and never used.

My guess is it's simply a placeholder from when they were testing the new elevator design, but before they did a fully-detailed model.
