Portal 2 Authoring tools missing

I have portal 2, got it at Gamestop a couple weeks ago. I've been running it in Steam but the Authoring tools are missing from the tools tab.
Can anyone help me?

I think you have to buy it on steam to have the authoring tools, since right now you are just linking a non-steam copy into steam. It won't detect it.

Nope I have a retail copy. Tools are there for me.

Are you sure it's not a cracked copy?
As if you have the game legit, you would have no problems with the authoring tools.

I seem to remember downloading the authoring tools before I could access them through steam. Have you downloaded them?
