Portal 2 Custom Skins

Posted Aug 16, 2011
Heya there,

Didn't realise how easy it is to change the skin of your character in Portal 2.

I followed this little tutorial and it worked fine.

Here are some test shots...

First test shot
Up a little closer

I know the skin sucks, I only quickly edited it in Photoshop to test it out, to see if it would work or not.

I shall make a better skin later on.

Note that only the person who edits the files etc, can see the skin on the character.

Just a little update on this.

I have managed to re-skin Wheatley.

Couldn't this be a way to get co-op skins without paying?

Not really. Other players won't be able to see the skins that you have on your computer with this method.

I just like how easy it is to create a skin. Thought it would be hard. However, to create a good skin a fair amount of creativity is needed.

By the looks of your picture, did you also changed the portal color?

Yep, changed the colours to pink and white. Note that this is also not seen by the other player.

What if you would put the skins into a .vpk? Won't it be accessible by others then?

Because in that case, only people actually playing your map, will have/see those skins.

Yeah, that would like that. Such as if you made a co-op .vpk, that had the same colour portal numbers etc for one of the characters in both co-op files...then both players could see it.
