VPK's no longer working in addons folder ?
I was on track of releasing my campaign tomorrow and what do i see ? VPK's no longer work in the addons folder. ANyone else having this ?
First, while you are in-game and place a new VPK file into addons folder, you must intro a command into the console something like "update_addons_path (or folder)"... just start typing and the command will appear. Then Portal2 will refresh addons folder content. Or you can quit portal2 and start it again...
Second, it should be due to Win7 permissions. Check out the folder properties. If all those latest updates in portal2 have resetted any of those permissions, you should enable them back again.
I hope that helps!
The question is, where does valve store the list of paths it searches for addons ?
Also, about permissions, ensure not only you (as administrator) own them, but also "System" and "TrustedInstaller". I had the same issue than you time ago and I set ALL permissions for me as administrator, and also system... and it worked.
The path is always portal2\portal2\addons\
I hope you can solve it!
Path: steamapps/common/portal 2/myportal2mods
That worked
That's what valve did with the dlc.
So just move your addons folder up one folder
Valve made the dlc as an addon, but instead, they just put the folder inside the portal 2 folder instead of portal2 addons folder
tried putting vpk in portal 2 folder (where portal2.exe is) , tried to make a "thecore" folder and put thecore.vpk in there , nothing worked... tried to make an addons folder in the new folder, doesn't work... well this is frustrating
I don't think it's something with permissions it's really that nothing is being read anymore from the addons folder. And wish valve would come forward with some news on this... (come to think of it, this topic can maybe be merged with the other topic i made lol

doesn't work for me, i even made the same folder as you , added my vpk that was orriginally in the portal2/addons to it and well ... doesn't show any of my maps. The only thing I seem to be able to do is just move everything uncompressed to the main portal2 folder , that works but for the rest i'm just at a loss of what to do.tried putting vpk in portal 2 folder (where portal2.exe is) , tried to make a "thecore" folder and put thecore.vpk in there , nothing worked... tried to make an addons folder in the new folder, doesn't work... well this is frustrating

No, name it pak_01dir or something like that
Am I the only one having this problem rightnow ?

don't you have to pack the vpk a certain way to have multi chunk vpk files for this to work ? because tht dir file is a file pointing to all other files it has as slave.Am I the only one having this problem rightnow ?
Nope, I have same problem, no .vpk:s working in addons OR same way as posts above said how to fix that.

I noticed that their content was inside its' own little folder and wondered why they did it this way. Spongy, you might want to explain a little better where you created the vpks and which folder you place the vpks to work.
Wondering whether the dlc pack that came in this week has something to do with it? using the map command to start a .vpk file seems to cause the game to search the map folder for a .bsp file and has no way of unpacking the .vpk file.
edit
I made a portal2_dlc2 folder along the first, extracted the files inside and they worked. Putting the vpk in the addons of the same folder wouldn't work. By the way, it does a weird loading thing when you run it the first time... maybe it's downloading the next DLC from Valve's server.
Someone pointed me to a very useful alternative:
