Browsing soundscapes
Posted Jul 08, 2011
I'd like to use more soundscapes for my maps, but testing them out is a chore. I just looked at the list of soundscapes on the mapping wiki and there's nearly 300 items there.
For my first map, in order to test out soundscapes and listen to them I would just make a testmap with several rooms and a soundscape in each. I found a few good ones for my contest map based on the names they had and got lucky with a few. But now for my new map I want to find juust the right one, and I don't want to set up hundreds of soundscapes in a test map to test them all. Is there some kind of browser where I could just scroll down a list and listen to each of them?

You can play soundscapes just by typing "playsoundscape <soundscape>" into your console on any map. It will override the actual soundscape until you enter a env_soundscape zone.
If you are looking for special soundscapes depending on the map theme, like destroyed, just open your portal2\scripts directory. There you can find a lot of soundscape txts.

thanks. I know where the soundscape txts are, I just need to listen to them. I'll try your thing with the console.

Using this list for my own project right now. Thought it might be helpful to post here:
