Sent us your specs!
As you might have seen in the signature of thecakeisaspy and my own a team of five members are currently working on a mod called portal stories. Some of the maps we created so far are quite big and have lots of details in them. By optimization we can reduce the amount of work your computer has to do, but there is a point where further optimization is impossible.
We want our mod to look as good as possible but also run on as much computers as possible. That's a problem, so we're searching for a good balance. It would be great if you could insert your computer specs here, so we can estimate where that balance has to be.
A few guidelines of what we like to know:
Your windows experience index (can be found on control panel -> system)
Your cpu (processor)
Your gpu (graphical card)
The amount or ram you have
How to get this information (windows vista and 7):
Go to Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items -> Systems
Then look for these things:
Rating:
Processor:
Installed Physical memory (RAM):
Then click in the menu to the right device manager and look for display adapters, and note that name as well.

to the right the device manager, to the left the other settings
Thank you very much for the info!
~Lp

WRY?!
HDD: 1TB Hard Drive
RAM: 8GB DDR3 RAM
GPU: ASUS NVIDIA GTX560Ti DirectCU II Top (Overclocked to 1GHz)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I had the idea that there were a lot of people using laptops with integrated graphics :O
Windows XP SP3
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13GHz
3GB RAM
Geforce 9800GT 1GB
1080p monitor
Portal 2 runs maxed out at 1080p @60fps with Vsync On
During the scene with the extended relaxation vault bumping into those stasis chambers, the GLaDOS wake up, the core transfer with Wheatley, and the part at the end with the portal on the moon, I usually get less than one frame per second during the entire scene, with the picture lagging up to two or three seconds after the audio.
Windows Experience Index:

System Requirements Lab for Portal 2: (I don't know why it said I have 4.5 GB of RAM, because I only have 4)

Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO CPU TZ500 2.20GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400
2 year old laptop, connected to a monitor. I need to set my graphics on all of my games to the minimum. Yet, Portal Stories works fine.
Windows Rating: 5.9 (win7 64 bit)
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
Memory: 6GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 (2560x1600 res)
I run portal with fully maxed out settings and no problems.
