Stop asking, I see it everywhere.
It's out when it's out.
Simple.

As spongy said: it's out when it's out.
I think it will take another month, possibly two.

@ Daschnookle:

I can assure you it is faster to learn hammer than waiting for Valve to release something!

I did learn hammer.

I know all the elements and how to make them but I'm the worst when it comes to fixing leaks. :) I also know Hammer will be wayyyy more extensive then Valve's version.

I just wanted to know.

Try loading the pointfile by clicking Map -> Load Pointfile...
A red line will show up, connecting the void to an entity in the map.

Some people are already receiving 'beta invites' to test the new map maker.

Personally I'm worried that it will open the floodgates for LOADS or REALLY BAD maps made by newbs.
I also have huge concerns about HOW our maps will be made shareable to XBOX and PS3 owners, given the fact that their BSPs are completely different to PC ones.

I'm also worried that ONLY maps made with the new tool will be shareable. And what about custom models and textures? how will I distribute those?

It doesn't sound like it's going to replace Hammer, so you'll still be able to map the old way. Personally, I like the "easy map maker" because it seems to be a good way to create the backbone of a map, then import it to Hammer and start detailing it.

assuming, of course that it uses a compatible file type.

ok you are quite true about your first statement, there have been beta invites.
Though...

People in the beta don't get the mapmaker (yet) since it is still under development.
The floodgates of "bad maps" will be regulated by a voting system, similar to the system they use for TF2 hats.
And about the question if "only mapmaker" maps can be shared... that is a no, the beta is actually to test valve's infrastructure on handling custom maps made in hammer by skilled mapmakers.

I cant say much more about it, simply because there isnt much info being released.
Though i hope this will ease your mood a bit about the upcoming updates :wink:

I don't care about the new editor, I just want this.

@wrathofmobius
I know that already. It says it in the VDC first tutorial. Thanks for your help anyway. :)

EDIT:
About your second post, did they say you save it as .vmf files? If they don't then you can't edit it in Hammer.

@Moth
I understand how you feel lol. I used custom textures to a lot of my maps. Loved your instance pack, btw. They were a biggg help to me. :)

I can't imagine them using any other file type than .vmf because it's the easiest to work with.

Chances are we are still using hammer even if the tool comes out.
