prop lighting question

My question has to do with possibly turning off the inherent lighting in some of the light props. I am trying to give a ceiling light (a prop_static) a fluorescent flicker with a regular light entity. The in game lighting looks great, except that the light source very unrealistically just kind of..stays on while the whole room flickers. I've tried different skins as well and messed with the shadow settings and all that.
So, how do I get the light to not light itself?

Well the only way to do this is find a model that has a 'lighted' and 'non-lighted' skin and by using a timer with a random time, make it change the skin and turn the light on and off.
I did this for a flickering light I did once.
