[Coop] Gelocity Stage 2

It's been a looong time...
...but finally here is my second portal 2 map.
Gelocity Stage 2 is a race track (surprise) but a little more complicated and more dynamic than the first one.
So if you enjoyed Gelocity, you might like this as well.

Installation instructions:
1. Extract mp_coop_gelocity_stage_2 to your Portal 2 maps folder (...\SteamApps\common\portal 2\portal2\maps).
2. In Coop Hub open developer console and type "changelevel mp_coop_gelocity_stage_2".
3. Race!

Note: It takes a moment to paint the race track with propulsion gel.
So if you experience performance issues, just wait a minute before starting.

Special thanks to Nerzl for playtesting.

Really nice to see another race map from you!
+ You did a great design again... it's really nice-looking!
+ I really love the details of your mapping... great atmosphere.
+ Scripting / events are very nice and new features are great.

Good job on the ping-tool detectors. Good way to use them.

I am already sure that i'm gonna love this. I was just playing with a buddy the first gelocity map and when we quit, i saw this. Great timing!

It's number one on our priority list when we get to play again. Thanks for giving us another race map!

This was tons of fun - again I laughed so hard - much better than the first! I loved all the new things you did - especially with the ping tool! It was much easier to follow this time too. We will be playing this often - too much fun! Thanks for making another great race map! Well done!

Trying to load this up as a split-screen (ss_map) to check it out... Somehow though this map is disabling the console. I can't even bring up the main menu to exit. Must use task manager to kill portal process to exit.

Does this always happen when you load the map via "ss_map"? Or did it only happen once?
Some weeks ago I had the same problem but with a different map. Thought this was a Portal 2 bug...
Anybody else with this problem?

Nope. Still haven't played with my buddy so i decided to try it this way. Everything worked fine for me. About the map, as i expected, a masterpiece. Loved the new obstacles/traps, the use of the ping tool etc.

Don't know if you plan to make more race maps, but seeing you really have the skill to make great ones and in case you decide to do more, how about some central hub with entrances to these cool maps? Something like baca25 did with the Amazing Race. And if/when you make a new map, you can update this hub too. Just a suggestion.

Anyway, thanks again for the map. Keep it up!

I played it with my friend and this map is good Good design, funny puzzles and lots of ways to stop other players. And that's what I like in this map - you can stop another player, so both players have same chance to win.

I tried to run it with ss_map too and no problem.

We even tried putting the host timescale to 2, talk about fast!... I dont even want to play regular portal now because it would seem so slow

Only happens with this map. And it happens every time. I loaded up a lot of others (as well as Gelocity v1) prior so I can test this, but when I load stage 2, the console will not open... It "Flashes" for about a second, but that's it.

If it helps, I also have to load the map twice. First time I try, it won't load... I'll have to pay more attention to it next time and give you a clip of what it says... Loading a second time and it loads, but no console...

Still haven't done a "true" coop with it yet though.

Thanks for your suggestion. In case I make another gelocity, I would surely make a lobby as well.
But I'm really slow at mapping and I don't have much free time to do this - I need 2-3 months for making a race map like gelocity. In fact running on propulsion gel is fast, so it makes you forget that gelocity is a really large map.
Well, currently I don't even have good ideas for another map like this and I'm burned out a little at the moment. So I don't think that I will make another race map soon. But I said the same after making the first gelocity.

@Raidix: Huh, yes Me and my friend recorded ourselves playing 10 laps on Gelocity. We will record Gelocity Stage 2 soon.

To be perfectly honest, racing isn't my game, nor my brother's. But we thought the track was interesting, with a lot of elements that we couldn't take advantage of because we're ham-fisted controller monkeys. Not knowing any better, because I've avoided race maps in the past, I give 5/5.

I loved the first map, but for some reason when I launch this, my game crashes and I get: "ED_Alloc: No free edicts."

So what's up with that?

This happens because an engine limit concerning the entities is reached.
I've done some optimizations in the 1.03 update to (hopefully) fix this. Please tell me if it still crashes. Then I will have to remove some (unnecessary) things like the exit room...

It works and I've played it with just about everyone now. Wonderful map.

But one small complaint. If you do make a third one, please do it in another visual theme. The current one gives me a headache for some reason. Maybe from the stars flying by so fast. Not important, but just an idea. Plus a map like this in Cave Johnson style would win you the whole internet.

Anyway, keep up the good work. I hope to see more amazing maps by you in the future.

You're right. I thought the same...
I tried to make it look good, but somehow it feels "uncomfortable". Maybe there is to much contrast between the track (orange) and environment (mostly black/grey). Or maybe the lighting could be better.
However - I think it's good that roads in real life are NOT orange.

loved the map but couldnt use the ping features due to playing splitscreen and pining freezing the other player.

Fun for the most part, hard to describe after playing the first stage. Nice use of the ping tool but if you like intellectual challenges it not for you.
