[HEAVY SPOILERS] Discussion on the new Cave Johnson lines

So what do people think of the new lines? Which are the best? What did people hope to hear but didn't? What about plot holes and little references to things? What mini-storylines did people enjoy?

Personally, I liked the Lovely assistant Caroline/creepy alien quote and the whole riff on astronauts, war heroes and olympians.

Discuss.

Oh, and talking about little references to things? Well the whole bit with Hercules (where's my Olympus? etc, etc. probably relates to some cut lines from the game:

When you're making some great science, it helps to keep a positive attitude. Look at Marie Curie. Invented radiology. Won two Nobel prizes. Dumb as a bag of hammers. Thought the light radiation gave off was pretty, walked around with it in bottles. Buried her with a smile on her face.
Let me tell you about a fella. Lived thousands of years ago. Only wanted folks to be a little nicer to each other. And in the end, he sacrificed himself to save us all. You know who I'm talking about: Hercules.

What do you think?

What do I think?
Meow Meow, meow meow!

oh and the manmantis are awesome too. Loved the parodies on the original lines.
(too bad cave ran out of lines for me, it's so quiet, I should re-set my playcount and start all over again!)

Cave johnson, blapperture Mesa, we're done.

msleeper thinks too much about video games
||I'm assuming that the line where he says they are going to cancel research into the genetic lifeform and disk operating system is from an alternate Cave. Since, obviously, Aperture prime did develop that technology.

The reversal of the maintismen line was pretty cute. (Injected with homo sapien DNA, man-mantises, etc.)

How this fits into the "plot", I'm assuming the Perpetual Testing Initiative happened in the 70's before Cave died. And them finding a universe made of money is how Aperture was able to stay afloat despite obviously going bankrupt.||

Of course, I'm also assuming these lines are just dis-canon jokes and have no bearing into the overall plot of the Portal universe.

Actually, we can assume that Cave Prime is from a different universe to the Portal/Black Mesa one as he isn't dead (that isn't a spoiler). Therefore he is free to cancel GLaDOS development. This is confirmed because that particular line begins with some chariots.

The genius of the multiverse is that the lines can be completely canon with the rest of the game and still be irrelevant!

There's a lot that's really inconsistent which is why I say it's probably 100% noncanon. All of the videos have copyright 1998 in them but also have Cave's voice for one.

Ahh, but that's from Cave Prime's universe, not the one inhabited by Chell and Freeman, etc. When you don't get poisoned by moon dust, or get put into a computer, you probably sound a lot more lively when you get to 1998. Hell, maybe Cave Prime is from a universe where people age slower than round these parts, so is able to stick around in time to record the trailers in 1998 and test parallel universes so that we can even have this conversation.

I found this to be my favorite and my most feared quote:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNheNbl0B7g

I was honestly scared shitless at that moment. Physical objects I can deal with but disembodied voices creep me out if the person on the other end sounds creepy enough.

EDIT: Also I liked the chambers where people were forming adventure parties to find out the company wide conspiracy which was that they were in space.

My favourite, by far, was this:
"Cave Johnson, new owner and CEO of Black Mesa. That's right, you've been bought. First order of business, we're renaming you under the Aperture brand. I'm leaning towards Blappeture Mesa. Marketing boys think something else. So: Blappeture it is. Next, they tell me you people are conducting some anomalous materials research that could result in a resonance cascade. So I'm shutting that down before you idiots end the world. A resonance cascade! You're supposed to be scientists. Use some common sense."

Seriously, that had me laughing for about ten minutes. I even restarted the chamber a few times just to hear it again.

So, I was literally like 30 seconds late buying "blapperturemesa.com" and a guy I know got it instead. I was pretty upset.

Wow, bad luck.
Still, you could be the first to file for bankruptcy under the Blappature brand.

Use of chariots twice means nothing towards Cave Prime's universe, the fact one Cave swapped to two chariots means infinite others also did. So there's pretty much none of this stuff that can be assumed "Prime cannon" until some non-multiverse stuff happens.

We're not even sure we end up back in the correct universe, after all infinite other Caves will have been trying to get their test subjects back too.

Next order of business: Hire a character artist to make a mantis player model for a single player mod.

You've run out of lines. I'm afraid you won't hear them again unless you type in a console command that I don't know.

At some point I didn't really pay attention to them anymore. The story was too random for my taste. I was hoping to get one random line out of a huge pack in every map instead.

-Deep Voice- "If you continue to test on this planet... you might find something very interesting about it..."
-Normal Voice- "... it's me. I'm the planet. You live on me. Was gonna save for later but... it's just too darn good."

I believe that the Cave johnson lines are just random Scene files that play depending on your map id. I bet they are all listed in the portal 2 voice line wiki page anyway...

I thought they were in an order: chariots, chariots chariots etc.
Anyway: some lines were funny, some not so much and I ran out of them, I believe there's a way to reset your progress but haven't found it yet
