I think it's fairly new, I only noticed it last week, so don't feel so bad. I suppose it may have been added in the PTI dlc, I had some console commands bound to that key, so I guess that's why I just found out about it last week. :S

very secky... this is probably some crossover they forgot to cover up considering they are integrating the workshop with coop maps right now.

unfortunately I have a script running on my portal 2 which overrides my R key to cleanse portals when pressed

  1. That map looks really cool.
  2. I never knew about this. Does this only happen when mapping?

I know it's in Portal 2. I just wanted to know if this could be accessed outside of making maps in Hammer. I've never seen this happen before and I was curious about it.

This could in theory be used to make some cool new "weapons" (eg, physcannon in Portal 2) if there were a ping detector around the cube.

Indeed, but it would be very glitchy.

I was thinking something could be done like what was done at the start of the Coop Collaboration Course. Where GLaDOS is your "partner" shooting portals where you ping.

Oh, it seems you can have a func_tank track pings with the new DLC! I suppose one could put a laser or tractor beam or paint sprayer or bridge or portalgun or something on it, and have it fire something.

Darn. I have R bound as "reload". Is there any way to change the SP ping key?

What would you be reloading in Portal?

After recompiling, you need to reload the map.

I think (but I'm not sure) that this was a new feature added to Co-op in the Peer Review DLC that accidentally made it into SP maps. With this feature, you can "ping" something with a thumbs up or a thumbs down symbol, so it might be to "Review" your partner (hence the name Peer Review).

I may be wrong though.

Is this feature still functional? I just attempted to use it and I got the menu to appear, but its stuck in the menu. Not even reloading the map will make the menu disappear and allow the player to walk again...

And I was hoping to incorporate this into a map...

i noticed that some people who have made fairly advanced hammer maps utilized the teaching tool to teach players how to use what they added in their maps that are completely original, and due to an undesired effect, the tool got stuck on and was repetitiously reminding the players how to play the game in other maps

The game instructor hints? I don't know why, but if you play a map straight from Hammer (having it launch Portal 2 with $game_exe) and that variable is on it starts the tutorial over again from the beginning of the game. :S
