hello everyone, i was wondering if there is somewhere a map pack of the maps that you can only download from steamcommunity.com, and if there is not any, if some generous soul could make one and upload it somewhere.
this is because for some reason i cant play maps from steamcommunity, i always download them from the direct download and at some point everyone started uploading maps from steamcommunity so there are lots of maps i've never played.
thank you in advance, im sure im not the only one who cant play from steamcommunity so you are making a favour for a lot of portal 2 players like me

Can you describe why you can't download maps from the workshop?
It currently contains over 100000 maps, and nobody is going to pack up all of those into a single download.

i dont know. its been a few months since almost everyone started uploading maps via steamcommunity, i just want that ones, only the single player ones. i didnt know there were over 10000 maps over there. i've played all single player maps that can be downloaded from the direct link of this page but since steamcommunity became mainstream i left aside a lot of maps, i thought there were less than 100000. anyway, any map pack of maps you can only find via steamcommunity would be great. if someone has the time to make it and upload it it would be great thanks!

So why exactly can't you download Workshop/Steam Community maps?

You know you can click the subscribe button on a workshop map and it auto downloads when you get into portal.

Just saying.

Oh, that's right, Chicken! I should have mentioned that right away but I forgot!
There's a fair number of people who don't get that and keep looking for a download button on the workshop page.

Chabon, do what ChickenMobile said, then (re)start Portal 2 and select "community maps" -> "play single player maps". They should be right there.

Also, I just noticed that this topic is in "Portal single player". It should probably be in "Portal 2 Single Player / Coop", so I'm moving it if that's ok.

Unless they are talking about Portal 1 maps. Then the whole workshop deal is a bust.

Do you have a legal version of Portal 2 purchased through Steam?

In most cases you also have to restart portal 2 although I find it highly unlikely you haven't done that already.

The .bsp files are in the portal2/portal2/maps/workshop folder. Also, make sure you're connected to steam and using the correct account. When I didn't have steam, I was still able to get items from the workshop. You won't have an easy time finding specific .bsp files, because they're all numbers, but I'm sure it's better than nothing.

oh right, i dont have steam account. but as you say, you can play the maps without steam account.. also, i lost my portal 2 dvds so i download it from the internet. i thought this was irrelevant. is there any way for me to play? i think the only way is by download the bsp from .rar files like always

No, I don't think so. You need to have an account to get the test chambers. But you can extract .bsp files from the steam directory when you don't have connection to steam.

You need a proper link between Steam and Portal 2 for community testchambers to work. It sounds like either you bought the retail version, in which case you can link it to your Steam account, or you pirated it, in which case you won't be able to play community testchambers.

Nope. Get steam and link your Portal 2 game to your steam account. We do not appreciate pirating on this forum.

Just a little math:
~177960 maps (estimated) at about 5 or 6 MB each (just for PTI maps) gives us 1067760 MB, or 1.06 petabytes. This is uncompressed of course, but even assuming a 99% compression rate, this is still over 1 terabyte. (although you still need to uncompress each map to play it) That is enormous, and well beyond the limits of any well-known (i.e. not virus) hosting sites. So unless you have a friend willing to make 125 trips over to your house with a 8 GB flash drive, I can only repeat this:
