1.Open your map in the puzzle maker.
2.Open the console and type the following:
puzzlemaker_export name (obviously you can enter any other name)
3.The resulting .vmf file will be saved in:
steam/steamapps/common/portal 2/sdk_content\maps
Then just open the .vmf file in the Authoring Tools and feel free to edit it.
Hope this helped.

Hey, that's a useful command! I didn't know of that one yet.
That's one of the two things valve messed up:
the command was told to us in the beta at some stage but it hasn't been really communicated by valve.
Second one is the portal 2 publishing tool for non-pti maps.
(located in steam/steamapps/common/portal 2/bin) lot of people don't know about it. (and I keep getting poked on steam "what is that map" stuff)

Yes, good thing Motanum mentioned that in his instruction videos!
I just uploaded my first map to the workshop, and I must say it looks very good. Nice big screenshots, super easy downloading, and automatic updates when I upload a new version because of some stupid mistake with the first one. It's a huge improvement!
I had some struggle with the tool itself though, but it gets the job done and that's the main thing.
Dear Valve,
did you know that most operating systems, including Windows, come with their own collection of form controls? They support really nice features like standard copy&paste key combinations, the ability to move around text with the arrow keys, working backspace and delete keys, and not making that horrible sound when you type too much in them. You really should consider using those next time, mkay?
Thanks a bunch,
HMW
Now that that's out of my system: The copy-paste commands have never given me trouble in the PeTI publisher (I'm assuming that's what your talking about), but the whole arrow-key-failure thing really gets on my nerves. You can still move around by highlighting the whole thing in an up-/down-wards direction. Really funky though. They should fix that.
thanks for your help with the commands and the information about the publishing tool.
One question: Is there a way to import a hammer map to pti, that I can edit it in pti again?
I've reworked my map in hammer and add some things, but I want to open it in pti now for some tests.
Is it possible?
Thanks a lot!

No. Sorry, not possible p2c -> vmf is one way.

...because you are adding information in Hammer that cannot be represented in the PTI editor. Even if someone were to make a conversion tool the other way, you would loose all of your Hammer work during the process, like brushes that are not aligned to the 128 grid, all entities that have no PTI equivalent etc.
(I don't mean to pre-empt your answer, lpfreaky. I just thought it would be useful to explain it a bit
)

Am I understanding correctly that this is the way to publish maps made in Hammer into the workshop? If so, what is that tool called within that folder?
It shocks me people don't know about puzzlemaker_export, I knew about it before I even had Hammer.

cool, thanks. I'll be needing to use this stuff pretty soon; I'm working on building a maze that utilizes world portals and vanishing func_brush blocks =D
But good luck anyway...

PTI was made for people who don't/can't use the Hammer, so I guess Valve was just thinking that people who use PTI wouldn't want to export it to Hammer.

If you'd like to try it, now that it's done, here it is: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... d=89932264
I think I should mention that the main focus isn't the world portals and such. those are just towards the end.

I have a related problem to the OP. I published a map to the workshop with the in-game editor. I then found that I needed to make changes to it which could be accomplished only in Hammer. So I made those changes, but I'm unsure how to publish it on the workshop so that it will replace the one I put there through the editor. I used the same file name and everything, but it just puts a duplicate map up. It would be nice to be able to keep the use stats and comments from the original map. Any ideas?
As far as I know it's not possible. In-game editor maps and hammer maps are handled differently.
