6GB Hammer update

I used Hammer earlier today with no problems. Later I started it again and all of a sudden Steam wants to download a 6.6 GB huge update for it.

I tried validating P2's and Hammer's files, both showed one to three invalid files which I redownloaded, still Steam wants to download those 6.6 GB.

edit: Sorry, that was wrong. P2 had three files that needed to be redownloaded. Validating Hammer's files keeps showing one file that needs to be redownloaded.

Does anybody know why this happens, better yet how not to wait a 3 hours long download before being able to use Hammer again?

If hammer is still working, disable automatic updates for hammer and just continue mapping.
Hammer updates wreck up hammer 50% of the time. :razz:

Damn, maybe I should have set that option earlier. Now it seems to be too late - even though automatic updates are turned off, trying to start Hammer starts the download again. Looks like I'll have to let this download then.

I had the same Hammer update a few weeks back. Nothing in this update seemed to change Hammer though.

Having the exact same problem right now, except the update is for Portal 2 itself - has downloaded 6.6Gb the last three times I opened Steam. Very frustrating. Did you find a solution?

Iirc, I just let it happen - downloaded once and that was it.

I've had this update for a while now. But because of strayan internet I am not able to download it. I use "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\bin\SDKLauncher.exe" - seems to do the job fine. I believe that that download is destined to sit there for all eternity.

I've got the same problem. When I pause update I can run hammer... but still don't know why Steam do this for me :razz:

I recently downloaded this 6.6gb for the Authoring tools and today i was obligated to download AGAIN to portal 2 >:(

I got the update back in November. What happened probably is that some of the instances have been updated.
