You realize we have had an IRC chat room since day one right? The java applet hasn't been around as long but it's been there for a long time too. It's not my fault that people don't want to use it, and if I wasn't away from my home PC for probably 75% of the day I would use the Steam Chat more.

We do have quality standards here you know and I generally don't let shitty maps get put into the Releases board. I can't say you're wrong about the general unreplayability of user maps, but hey we can only do so much about that.

yeah i know theres an IRC channel for twp but as you say, people don't want to use it. Everyone knows steam group chat and since everyone has to run steam to use the SDK or run portal if you're working on a map you're already running the chat program so why use another program?

anyway this isnt really a moan at the site or any particular aspect of it. its more me feeling like its time to move on than to stay and work less than half assed on ts13

Because not everyone is mapping when you are. If you map while msleeper's at work, he can still give advice and help, via IRC. Steam chat, no such luck. If they opened up the protocol so that, say, Pidgin could use it, I'm sure that it would be easier to use.
