hammer.exe - Application Error

I have been using the updated sdk since the day it came out and now, today, I am receiving this message when I open any map in hammer:

The instruction at "0x0d6c3618" referenced memory at "0x0d6c3618". The memory could not be "read".

So far I have tried re-downloading the SDK, using different RAM in my computer, updating BIOS/drivers.

If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to fix this, I would very much appreciate it.

Artesia had this same problem, I figured it would be a RAM issue for him but if other people are getting it, then yeah, this is likley a real bug with Hammer. Email Mike Durand with how you got the error and see if you can reproduce it, and I'm sure he'll fix it.

Well, I tried a bunch of "fixes" that I found on various sites and seem to have come across one that actually works:

Short version:
1. Open hammer.
2. Create a new map
3. Choose "3D Textured Polygons" from the View Menu (NOT "3D Shaded Textured Polygons")
4. Close Hammer entirely so your settings save.
5. Reopen Hammer and it should be working again.

If that doesn't work, try saving the new map before closing hammer.

NOTE: Once you get it working, NEVER choose "3D Shaded Textured Polygons". (until they patch it for the ep2 engine that is)

I tried taco's advice, it works. Thank you, taco. Now I can resume my mapping.

I hope so. the 3d shaded polys was broken since the november update so they must have tried to fix it and failed, hope it gets fixed soon, shaded polys are much better than evenly lit ones.

Shaded texture preview never actually shaded anyways from what I read

and btw I'm the one who wrote that 'short version' that taco quoted. (But I don't take credit for it either, I simply summarized what some other people said and it worked for me...)
