They look a bit glitchy though.
well what i was thinking is, I can envision a multiplayer mod with this portal technology where the gun itself had limited uses, and spawned very infrequently for death match, or for team/class based mod, having 1 class that uses the device for circumventing obstacles for the team...
Could/would a portal be available to be used by anyone in the game once created? Would it be based on your team? There are alot of questions that I am sure could be asked, however... all speculation aside, I am sure that a good coder could bend the variables of Aperture's science toy to fit into some form of SP/MP DM or Team/Class based mod.

I think that would be out of the question since their version is the one containing bugs.

What if we could get the physics engine to recongnize certain textures that would cause the portal projectile being shot to ricochet instead of just disappearing.
Just a thought, I dunno anything about coding but if the "power" balls could bounce, why not the projectile?
