Can someone make a map set in destroyed aperture that ends with Chell escaping the building and being free. I like the idea; while in game I always feel as if I am trying to escape. A map with this ending would bring me a feeling of closure and happiness.

He could have been talking about Portal 1. From the look of this thread it doesn't seem like he's even played Portal 2 (not knowing the ending), just seen images of it.

He wouldn't be able to play destroyed aperture maps in Portal 1. Also, presumably, if you had a legal copy of Portal 1, Steam would let you download Hammer for it.

I'm fairly certain that if you got Portal during the free 1 day promotion a while back, that you can't download Source SDK. I could be wrong though.

You're not; if you got the game then, you don't have access to the SDK. Not sure about gifted copies or Portal or Portal 2, though.

Msleeper is right, if you have the free portal promotion version of portal, you can't get hammer. But he'd only have to have/buy one other source game to get it (hl2 and episodes)

Wow, apparently I missed the part where they were giving Portal away for free some time last year. Ban removed.
Sorry dude. Although, you should probably get a copy of Portal 2 if you want to be able to play the maps being produced here, much less contribute to the community by producing maps.

I have the version of Portal that was free some time back, and I have access to its section in Hammer. Though I also have all the Half Life games and Portal 2, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Owning the Half-Life games would get you Hammer.

It was an admin mistake apparently, misinterpreting the OP's statement about owning "free Portal" (in this case acquired through Valve's giveaway) as an admission to pirating the game.

Oh I see. As for Half Life allowing me to use Hammer, yes of course. I mean specifically map for Portal in Hammer.
