Because it's really annoying to see [ spoiler] Cave Johnson is Chell's wife [/spoiler] and it's also confusing and annoying to new members who try to write spoilers.

The problem is that BBCode is disabled for all newly registered users, as a means to combat spam bots. Unfortunately this means any new user has their BBCode disabled until they have made 3 or more posts. So I'd have to either enable BBCode for all new users (and risk being affected by spambots worse), or just have new users suck it up. The mods do try and go through and fix the BBCode for stuff that does contain spoilers, but we aren't perfect.

Would it be possible to put something in the rules thread about the no-BBCode-until-three-posts rule?

Yeah, but nobody reads that shit anyway.

So I went ahead and re-enabled BBCode for new users. The only thing they can't do is post images which, again, is just to help safeguard against spam bots.
