If Masamune Shirow taught me something, and he and The Godfather gave me everything I know, is that you can't just upgrade an appendage because then it would be a strong piece connected to weak parts. What if you get a hernia from the momentum in the upper body.

Pfft, hernia? With some of the falls Chell can take with the boots her entire body above her mid-calves would be broken in several different ways.

the average terminal velocity of a person is ~around 120mph.... I could see a highly advanced, hydraulic/springy (and probably computer controlled) speed reduction system being able to slow a person down in a short distance.. especially if they where "long" enough
