ok, so, thought, as a former and current admin of some forums/wikis, I'll propose some rules for this place that are more than fair, as everyone's yelling about this or that.

1)Be civil.
2)No pornographic content.
3)No illegal downloads are to be linked to.
4)No triple posting in a row - this is to allow for natural burial of unwanted threads.
5)Keep posts in off topic relevant to the thread it is being posted in.

thoughts?

4) No necro's - Don't 'bump' topics that are <insert time interval here> old. I propose in between two weeks and one month.

Doesn't the current Rule 4 fix this?

Nope, because if YOU make a thread that dies, and one year later the only thing I add is 'LOL' then its just as pointless;

Here's an idea, and I know nobody will use it. Why don't we keep discussions in this forum Portal-related and leave off-topic for whatever we want, while [u:2nnykwt2]using good judgement to moderate ourselves[/u:2nnykwt2]???

Really? You never mentioned it before.

We're all mature enough to not need petty rules that could cause problems in the future.

I would have though a general thing that just said 'Don't post low content threads' would be enough; considering That's pretty much what the old one on mAL had.

You'd think, but we have Tex here. and Sven. you gotta watch out for that guy.

but in all seriousness, trusting in good faith is a stupid rule.> vanSulli wrote:

Hey, I'm saying it as I have experience in this sector. I am practically a fully qualified community manager.

If not, they'd have fired me if I didn't do my job, which I do. quite well :v

I see where you're coming from with the rules, but I think that if we have these rules, and you enforce them as you do, sooner or later there will be a giant hoo-ha over some tiny issue. It's happened before. If we just play it by ear, it's far less formal, which is apt considering it's off topic.

Whoah, whoah, whoah, watch that.

Also nobody gives a damn about your admin experiences and what not, as long as you're not, you know... admin or mod HERE it's kinda... irrelevant...

"Look at me I've been admin..." um... okay? Is that your pick-up line or something?

it was a joke. :v like those things people laugh at. you need an epiglottis to laugh. do you have one? :v

also, I understand many are seeing my admin mentions as ego here. but, it's not really at all. I don't prize my status on other sites over the admins here. it's not ego, it's fact. I am able to moderate, and have much experience in the field. indisputable fact.
does it mean I want to overrule admins here? no. does that mean I want to be admin here? no, that's just the fact I was an admin in mAL, and it was fun there.

I'm just lending my input as an established admin elsewhere. it is entirely up to you to listen or not. And since these are rules, to be enforced by admins, I think it only fair to state I have experience in that field, so these rules are crafted with them in mind.

If you wish to call it ego, go ahead. but it is not. it is me trying to help a startup forum so that I can be a part of a portal community for once. I'm tired of being excluded from TWP, and self-imposed exclusion from mAL. can you blame me for wanting this community to grow?

still, regardless, I will try to keep mentions to a minimum. I had only meant to help, but if it is causing annoyance, I shall stop.

I'm gonna side with the play-by-ear thing. If someone does something that's out of line, then it can be dealt with by an admin (an actual admin ). There's no need for rules that cause more problems than they solve.
