static mesh help

Hey Guys, i placed a static mesh on the wall, behind it simple brushes of rust texture. In the game anything behind the mesh is totally black. Why is that?
Also how do i get rid of potato portal gun and replace with regular? Im using turbine elevator

Click your prop and choose "Disable shadows" under the properties. That will fix the darkness.
Looks from your screenshot like you should do that to the pile-o-tile on the floor to your right as well.

Not sure about the potato gun directly, but msleeper made a custom version of the transition_ents instance that fixes it. Use that instead of the Valve-provided one to get the normal gun.
