Now, we discuss Portal, its story, its fails, impossible theories, possible theories, etc..

Now, if this goes as planned it should go as in the "is anyone still here?" thread, where we changed the subject alot. I thought it was stupid to keep talking about the wrong subject, in the wrong topic.

So yeah, where were we?
Oh right:
We were discussing if this theory holds:

http://www.game-ism.com/2008/04/14/the- ... ct-part-2/
http://www.game-ism.com/2008/04/13/the- ... ct-part-1/

Yeah, and just to bring up the previous posts on that:

So he's trying to prove that Chell is a clone, and i laughed when he said about the writing in the bts areas:

The handwriting is always the same.

No, Really. I think that's more just valve being too lazy to create more than one decal for some text and hoping the players won't notice.

Quote:

The name and password login written on one of the walls is: cjohnson. The odds of someone other than Chell running this course previously and knowing Cave Johnson's name and password is astronomically small.

Come on? That's an easter egg for the website!

It's not that i'm saying that Chell ISN'T a clone, but if she is, i don't think this could prove it.

ASBusinessMagnet wrote:
And there is a whole bunch of comments saying that Chell isn't an android either. For example, there's a toilet in a relaxation vault and handwriting - an android wouldn't write like a human.

Now,

Discuss.

For the next part, The Cube as a Love Proxy Device, I believe it's actually true. Look at your signature.

Haha!

I believe that the subject is meant to love the cube, though i have a hard time believing GLaDOS loves Chell - Even if Chell is a clone.

I'm not a fan of the clone/android theories. Why don't we just send gabe an email and find out?

Remember, GLaDOS (originally Gladys Johnson, the CEO's wife and Chell's mother) still loves her daughter (even though she's a clone) and trapped in the facility (if theory holds) wants to be free (again), so she tells you to love the cube and later to kill it, as you will kill her (GLaDOS).
But I mean that not Chell actually loves the cube, but the players do. > Quote:

Me neither, Though, I don't think Gabe would reveal such secrets.

And ASBusinessMagnet,
For some reason i can't quote you,

I'm confused GLaDOS means Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System, I never heard it should be related to a name, except for alot of props is located in a game folder called "Gladys_Destruction".

[1] Absolutely true.

and one pressed "quote", he would get only:

Another text

[3] Found it on a comment on part 3.

GLaDOS actually is Chell's mother, and Cave Johnson's wife.

Perhaps GLaDOS was Glad[y]s Johnson, or some other similar name...
(or maybe I'm grasping at straws.)
GLaDOS goes insane, do the things being done to her mind.
The morality core maybe keeps her mostly sane.....
Just sane enough to realize whats happened to her, and to hate her existence.
Then, she sets you up to destroy it, and then when shes in her crazed state, her.

And there's another referrence that GLaDOS is pretty humanic, this time on Combine Overwiki:

Quote:
"GLaDOS" is a pun with the words "glad", "DOS" ("disk operating system"), and Gladys, a female personal name (the game files show a folder called "gladdysDestruction").

http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/GLaDOS

EDIT: The case is supposedly closed:

Part 1 doesn't hold
Part 2 holds
Part 3 holds

This is just a guess here, but it seems to me like the term "Gladdys" used in the Portal files would be a nickname; ie, "Gladdy's destruction." Why Valve would use a nickname in the files when the real name is used in other files is a mystery, but I'm guessing it would have to be some sort of inside joke.

Well, Valve never used the fact that GLaDOS was a human being, but she was.

If she wasn't, because Part 3 holds, she would never want to be free again. She wouldn't know what freedom is.

Ohh...we're talking about the Clone, the Construct, and the Cube still. I see.

The fact GLaDOS was a human being is simply a consequence of Part 3 of the Clone, the Cube, and the Construct. What you expected, a Rick Roll discussion?!

I've started to wonder now... The username on the wall indeed was 'cjohnson'. But does that have to apply to Cave Johnson? Couldn't it be... Chell Johnson?

Part 1:

Quote:
More to the point, this is probably not Cave Johnson's name and password, as previously thought, but the original Chell Johnson's name and password, from an earlier clone iteration who could remember who she was.

Even though the fact Chell is a clone is debunked, this [couldn't apply, read edit].

EDIT: The "notes.exe" file accessible only through the 'cjohnson' login doesn't mention Chell Johnson, it only mentions Cave Johnson. If GLaDOS knew it's Chell Johnson, why the a- don't mention Chell Johnson?!

I still don't see how GLaDOS is a former human. The only evidence presented on this forum is a comment from another site and a clip from a wiki. Albeit it is the Combine Overwiki, but still...
It just doesn't make much sense for GLaDOS to have been a human. I can (barely) accept the theory about Cave using his family as test subjects, but when a human mind becomes so twisted as to need several different cores--including a morality core installed? It seems like the company would have simply scratched the project and coded an AI.

Plus, I like Big Brother-esque way GLaDOS runs the facility.
