Yes, it deserves its own thread. I know this because of reasons.

Official Site, I think.
'Standalone game.' Dunno if I want to shell up moneys for it, but if its as good as the original, but bigger.... Meh. Still, it looks good so far.

I might be part of the remake. I emailed them back when they were looking for people to help and they just recently emailed me.

Unfortunately it was in my spam folder and I don't know how long (no dates??? wat), but I replied anyway. Hopefully it's not too late.

Yay! this looks cool. I loved the first one despite it's admittedly bad mapping. I believe this is on the portal 2 engine, is it not? I recognized some props...

Bad mapping? For a Mod which exploded as it did, I think the mapping was humbly spot on. Not amazing, but not horrible.

By mapping standards it was horrible, underdetailed in alot of spots, with bland (but not terrible) lighting. However the story made up for it tenfold.

I think Kizzy might be trying to say that there was sort of a simplicity in the maps that lent itself to the game's narrative almost directly and deliberately.

I dunno. A simplistic approach would definitely fit, but as Grox said, the mapping is pretty bad. No detail, blocky geometry, poor lighting in places (in others it's okay though). A little improvement would suit it well, but it doesn't have to look like Half-life 2 or any other modern game.

Are you saying that the simplicity worked for or against the story?

Simplicity =/= mediocre mapping. TF2 has a "simplistic" artstyle, but it's well-lit, detailed in its own way and overall aesthetically pleasing. The original Stanely parable had a lot going for it, but some areas were fairly unappealing.

The passageways you spend most of your time in were fine, for the most part, but the windows were just glass brushes in holes in the unusually thick walls. Also, in the device and monitor rooms, there was a lot of potential for a really cool looking room but instead the walls were just a single concrete texture and there wasn't much detail.

I'm not calling for a total revamp, obviously, but just some detail-retouches in places.

Too late. The screenshots kind of speak for themselves. Its being done in a far more traditional office space setup.

Yeah, I know. We'll see how it turns out. I doubt that a more realistic style would detract too much, but In my opinion it shouldn't have deviated so much from the original.

Like copper said, it's possible to be "bland" without being undetailed.

The traditional office space, as an example. To most people, this is boring. It's something they see in their every day lives, with little variation. It's normal, and it's uninteresting.

Similarly, from what I've seen they are deviating from it in significantly and purposefully in the later areas.

Your point about Portal 2 is sorta right, though. Portal 1 was interesting in that it was VERY plain...until it all broke down. Portal 2 was just kinda detailed all over.

Was really forced and the voice acting was totes poop at the end.

And the fact it's 99% Valve content bothers the hell out of me. I'll get it on sale and/or make someone else pay for it because the first one was neat.

Really enjoyed the demo; it wasn't deep, but it wasn't trying to be. It did what it wanted with intention, and for that I enjoyed.
