The Worlds First Custom Portal Test Chamber [RELEASE]

Hi there. I've been mapping for some time, (a few years) and when I had played through Portal, I felt the urge to map for it. I quickly discovered the SDK workaround thanks to a forum post on interloopers and began mapping. I then produced the worlds first test chamber, originally released on October 14th.

There's not much else to say. The map is only 1 test chamber, and I made a custom GLaDOS speech to go with it. I have provided 1 screenshot and two download links.

Enjoy, and please leave a review here after you've played it.

Just did it. Looks absolutely awesome. Have some minor things to note out but have to have dinner first. I'll write it in a few minutes ^^

Okay, this is the most 'Portal-ish' custom map I've played yet. Meaning it could be in the game for real easily. I love the custom GLaDOS voice aswell.

I needed to think about how to do the puzzle for about 20 seconds, which is long for me cough cough Smart one indeed.

First thing I noticed wrong was the door here:

Shadows aren't right I think?

Also, your entrance and exits look different from the regular maps. It's not really a problem of course :p

I'm also missing the emancipation grid at the end. Not needed in this one of course but it would make it complete:

Anyway, very nicely done. Maybe you could share with other mappers on this forum (not me) how you made the metal walls so that they don't hold portals. I believe there are quite some who are wondering around here atm.

Kudos to your work Hope you stick around on this forum. Would love to play more of your maps. o/

been meaning to post this.
from http://kenjara.wordpress.com/

Quote:
How to get the portal gun: -

Select the entity tool (Shift+E)
On the right in the entity object box scroll down to weapon_portalgun
Click in the map to place it!

How to make walls unportalable: -

Create a new brush
open the texture browser and search for no draw
apply the no draw texture to the brush
select the brush and press ctrl + t
change its class to func_noportal_volume
place it in front of a wall that you dont want a portal to be made on.

Looking good , really getting the portal feel going.

Can I just confirm that we are not able to replicate the shiny metal pistons until the SDK comes out? What I assume are the right textures do not appear to work.

Could use some Pakrat to put your sounds into the BSP so there is only one file, but awesome either way! Deffinatly worth playing.

Thanks for all your comments! Your advice means a great deal to me when I'm making new maps for Portal.
